Duties Description
The Center for Home and Community Based Services Surveillance is responsible for the licensure and surveillance of licensed home care services agencies (LHCSA), certified home health agencies (CHHA), hospices, and Home Health Aide Training Programs (HHATP) in accordance with State laws, regulations, and codes, as well as the investigation of complaints.
This position is with the MARO Regional Office based out of New York, New York. The nurse surveyor's primary responsibility will include providing support to the surveillance teams by performing quality reviews and ensuring agency compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Registered Professional Nurse, licensed and currently registered to practice nursing in New York State.
- Excellent telephone, listening, and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office products and experience with complex data entry systems.
- Proficiency in working with MS Office products and exceptional organizational skills are required.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have professional skills including:
- Nursing surveillance and clinical skills.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Proficiency navigating computer applications used for surveillance or utilization review, SharePoint, and the Electronic Plan of Correction system.
- Ability to expeditiously and effectively interpret laws and regulations governing adult care and assisted living facilities in New York State.
Responsibilities
- Tracking and evaluating agency submitted Plans of Correction for all regions.
- Effectively communicating with agencies the requirements of an acceptable Plan of Correction.
- Completing off-site post-survey revisits.
- Reviewing triage level and evaluating new complaint intakes.
- Completing off-site complaint investigations including complaint write-ups, communication with complainants, staff interviews, patient interviews/observations, and letter generation.
- Report development using applicable computer programs.
- Review of facility Policies and Procedures.
- Preparation of general correspondence.
- Participation in agency license amendments, license closing/opening reviews, and change of ownership procedures.
- Participation in meetings and on committees.
- Participation in Enforcement Action against home care agencies including testifying at hearings and reviewing Statements of Deficiencies to ensure compliance with the Principles of Documentation.
- Involvement with regional office special projects.
