Description
Job Title: Registered Nurse – Operating Room
Reports To: TBD
Provides Direct Support To: 633 Medical Group, Langley AFB, Hampton, VA.
Duty Hours:
Work hours are approximately 8-hour shifts, typically Monday – Friday. Schedule is limited to 40 hours weekly or 80 hours every 2 weeks. Typical shifts start from 0630-1500, but some 8-hour variance may occur. Contract employees may work with the scheduler; overtime is limited and for patient care duties. Shifts are from 0630-1500 and not to exceed 40 hours a week; unless overtime has been approved.
Degree/Education:
Associate's Degree of Nursing.
Graduate from a college or university accredited by Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Certifications:
Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
Licensure/Registration:
Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
Experience:
One year of experience in nursing after graduation RN program.
A minimum of 12 months experience is mandatory in operating room assignments.
Experience must include all phases of operating room technique such as preparing operating room units, preparing patients for surgery; and assisting medical officer during surgery; and conducting instrument and equipment sterilization procedures.
Job Duties and Responsibilities: The duties include but are not limited to the following:
Coordinate patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals. Facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality and cost effectiveness.
Ensure compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF.
Perform physical exam and health histories.
Provide health promotions, counseling, and education.
Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions.
Direct and supervise care provided by other healthcare professionals.
Accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level ofassigned personnel.
Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations.
Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcareteam of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate.Perform nursing services identified in the TO.
Conduct research in support of improved practice and patient outcomes.
Lift patients as needed with assistance from team members.
Lift 20lbs surgical trays and bear prolonged standing.
Follow assignments based on the needs of the unit: Nurse Manager of Surgical Specialty, Infection Control Monitor, Charge Nurse, and any additional administrative duties necessary for Surgical Operations.
