Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group is actively seeking a Registered Nurse to practice out of our Procedure Suite in Williamsburg and Newport News.  Tidewater Physicians Multispecialty Group (TPMG) includes more than 220 primary care, specialty physicians and advanced practice clinicians in more than 75 locations throughout southeastern Virginia.  The schedule is PRN or as needed work hours, Monday-Friday.
 
Major Duties and Responsibilities 
  • Greets patient on arrival in the pre-operative area.
  • Identifies the patient, applies arm band and initiates nursing documentation in the patient's medical record.
  • Assures belongings are properly labeled and placed under patient stretcher.
  • Questions patient on allergies, last intake of food or drink, and documents responses.
  • Verifies operative consent for correct procedure, doctor's name, patient's signature, and date and time.
  • Verifies presence of completed history and physical in the medical record.
  • Takes vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, oxygen saturation % and respirations) and documents on arrival and as necessary.
  • Completes pre-operative check list.
  • Verifies medical record for appropriate laboratory results and notifies physician of any abnormal value, which should also be reflected in the medical record documentation.
  • Verifies physician's orders and performs procedures as ordered.
  • Gives appropriate medications per physician's orders.

  • Prepares area as designated by procedure and chart.
  • Communicates with Procedure suite personnel about any problems which arise.
  • Performs the duties of the recovery room nurse as directed by the Director of Nursing.
  • Reports malfunctioning equipment to the Director of Nursing.
  • Assists with receiving and storing supplies.
  • Maintains an adequate supply as needed in all of the specific areas, i.e. processing, preop/recovery.
  • Disposes of contaminated needle containers in appropriate receptacle.
  • Conducts the pre-operative patient assessment according to facility policy and in accordance with anesthesia guidelines.
 EDUCATION/TRAINING/REQUIREMENTS
  • Current licensure in this state as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • ACLS certification preferred within six (6) months of date of hire.
  • Previous work experience in an ambulatory surgery setting or acute hospital recovery room or operating room of no less than one (1) year.
  • Mental and physical health sufficient to meet the demands of the position.
  • Intermittent physical mobility/activity including walking, standing, sitting, light lifting, pulling or pushing of carts, equipment, etc.  Must be able to bend body downward at the waist; be able to kneel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to lift or move equipment.
  • Ability to stand and walk for limited periods of time.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to enter data into a computer via a keyboard.
  • Ability to occasionally reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 30 lbs. *

  • Ability to occasionally squat and lean over.
  • Ability to hear normal voice level communications in person or through the telephone.
