    Registered Nurse (Outpatient) – VA Sheridan, WY
    This Position Is Contingent Upon Bid Award

    • Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
    • Clearance Requirements: National Background Check with Inquiries, Fingerprints, and Drug Screen.
    • Type of Employment: Full-Time, 40 hours per week.
    • Estimated Period of Performance: TBD – contract will be up to 5 years.
    • Total Compensation pay: $42.50 per hour.
    • Benefits Offered: Health/Dental/Vision
    • Paid Time Off per Year: Up to 80 hours per year, occurring on day one.
    • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56 hours per year, occurring on day one.
    • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays

    Working Hours
    The Registered Nurse (Inpatient) will normally work Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break, including rotation days, evening and night shifts, and weekends and holidays. The Nursing Assistant will not work more than 40 hours a week.

    Summary of Duties
    The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide direct patient care and support medical staff in delivering safe, effective, and patient-centered care to Veterans receiving services at the Sheridan VA Health Care System. The RNs will perform duties under the direction and supervision of the assigned medical staff in accordance with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) policies, facility procedures, and accepted nursing practices. The RN will provide 24/7 nursing care, including weekends and holidays.

    Qualifications

    • Graduate of an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program.
    • Current, unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state or territory.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
    • Minimum 1 year of direct patient care experience within the last 3 years.
    • Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently.
    • Must meet all VA credentialing, privileging, immunization, and background requirements.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments for Veterans presenting to outpatient clinics.
    • Obtain and document medical history, vital signs, and presenting concerns.
    • Administer medications, vaccines, and therapeutic injections per provider orders.
    • Assist with minor procedures (e.g., wound care, dressing changes, suture removal).
    • Conduct patient education on disease management, medications, and follow‑up care.
    • Support chronic disease management (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, COPD).
    • Perform triage (telephone and in‑person) using approved VA protocols.
    • Prepare patients for provider evaluation, diagnostic testing, and specialty consults.
    • Coordinate care transitions between primary care, specialty clinics, and community services.
    • Manage clinic flow to ensure timely patient movement and efficient operations.
    • Review provider schedules and anticipate care needs for upcoming appointments.
    • Track consults, follow‑up appointments, and required diagnostic testing.
    • Communicate abnormal results or urgent findings to providers promptly.
    • Support walk‑in patients and same‑day access needs.
    • Document all care in the VA Electronic Health Record (EHR) accurately and before the end of the shift.
    • Verify and carry out provider orders; follow VA policy regarding verbal orders.
    • Maintain compliance with HIPAA, Privacy Act, and VHA Handbook 1907.01.
    • Ensure all required screenings (e.g., suicide risk, MST, pain, falls) are completed.
    • Follow all VA infection control standards, including PPE and isolation protocols.
    • Maintain safe medication administration practices, including barcode scanning.
    • Participate in patient safety reporting, fall prevention, and hazard identification.
    • Comply with OSHA bloodborne pathogen requirements and annual testing.
    • Demonstrate VA ICARE values (Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, Excellence).
    • Maintain professional appearance and behavior at all times.
    • Provide compassionate, culturally sensitive, Veteran‑centered care.
    • Uphold patient rights, privacy, and dignity.
    • Attend required staff meetings, huddles, and quality improvement sessions.
    • Complete all mandatory VA training (EHR, HIPAA, MST, Suicide Prevention, etc.).
    • Participate in competency assessments, FPPE/OPPE, and performance evaluations.
    • Support clinic‑level quality initiatives and process improvement projects.
    • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and care conferences.
    • Coordinate care transitions and discharge planning.
    • Demonstrate VA ICARE values (Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect, Excellence).
    • Maintain professional appearance and behavior at all times.
    • Provide compassionate, Veteran‑centered care and uphold patient rights.
    • Attend monthly staff meetings and unit quality improvement meetings.
    • Complete all mandatory VA training (EHR, HIPAA, MST, Suicide Prevention, etc.).
    • Participate in FPPE/OPPE, competency assessments, and ongoing performance evaluations.
