Registered Nurse - Court Services (Part Time)

Pay rate: $35.02 per hour minimum

Schedule: May include day, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts

Location: Normal, IL

As a Registered Nurse at the Juvenile Detention Center, you''ll provide essential healthcare services to youth while working alongside detention staff, physicians, therapists, and community healthcare providers. This role offers the opportunity to combine your clinical expertise with compassion, advocacy, and teamwork to support the health and well-being of residents during a pivotal time in their lives.

Full salary grade range: $28.9663 - $44.5128 per hour

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

As part of our Court Services team, you will:

  • Assess and monitor residents'' physical and mental health while maintaining accurate medical records.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and nursing care in accordance with physician orders and established policies.
  • Coordinate medical, dental, emergency, specialty, and telepsychiatry appointments.
  • Perform resident health assessments, maintain medical documentation, and manage medication records for billing purposes.
  • Coordinate and implement medically necessary dietary accommodations.
  • Provide individual and group health education to residents.
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, detention staff, families, and outside healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care.
  • Train new employees and provide annual medical-related training for staff.
  • Maintain compliance with professional nursing standards, OSHA requirements, and County policies.
  • Respond calmly and effectively in urgent situations while promoting a safe environment for residents and staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong clinical knowledge of nursing theory, human anatomy, illnesses, and medical terminology.
  • Ability to monitor patient conditions and respond appropriately in urgent situations.
  • Familiarity with patient de-escalation and calming techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on empathy and respect.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and electronic recordkeeping.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professional standards.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts.

Required Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse license in Illinois, or in a state with Illinois reciprocity.
  • CPR and IV certifications (required).
  • Additional certifications as needed for the role.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, 20 pounds constantly.
  • Exposure to body fluids, airborne illnesses, and potentially anxious or combative patients.
  • This position works with the Juvenile Detention Center staff and officers to ensure a safe and healthy environment. Clear communication is essential to this position.
  • Use of protective equipment such as gloves, gowns, and masks are required.
