Duration: 12 Weeks
Schedule: Days | 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM | 3 x 12-hour shifts (36 Hours/Week)

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience required.
  • No local candidates within a 50-mile radius.
  • Current AHA BLS Certification required.
  • Current AHA ACLS Certification required.
  • Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) Certification required.
  • Experience caring for Pulmonary and Thoracic patient populations in an acute care setting preferred.

Unit Overview

The Pulmonary Thoracic Progressive Care Unit provides specialized care for patients requiring close monitoring following thoracic surgery or treatment for complex pulmonary conditions. Nurses manage patients with respiratory compromise, chest tubes, post-operative thoracic procedures, and other high-acuity medical conditions requiring progressive care.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients in the Progressive Care Unit with pulmonary and thoracic diagnoses.
  • Perform ongoing patient assessments, monitor cardiac rhythms, respiratory status, and recognize changes requiring immediate intervention.
  • Care for patients with chest tubes, tracheostomies, high-flow oxygen therapy, BiPAP/CPAP, and post-thoracic surgical needs.
  • Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and treatments according to physician orders and hospital protocols.
  • Interpret telemetry monitoring and respond appropriately to cardiac rhythm changes and clinical deterioration.
  • Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, case managers, and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
