Position: Registered Nurse - Psych
Location: Middletown, CT 06457
Duration: 12-week assignment, 40 hours/week (potential for overtime)
Shift: 1st, 2nd & 3rd shift Available, No weekends

This position is accountable for providing specialized professional nursing care involving direct nursing care of individuals and performing professional nursing work in the areas of community, behavioral health, or therapeutic nursing. The incumbent functions as an independent practitioner responsible for assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and coordination of nursing care while collaborating with interdisciplinary treatment teams.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - DIRECT CARE
Independently develops, implements, and evaluates nursing and health care plans.
Provides nursing consultation within assigned specialty programs.
Conducts comprehensive nursing assessments.
Provides admission and discharge nursing assessments, including plans for continuing care.
Maintains accurate clinical records and prepares required reports.
Provides nursing services in compliance with applicable regulations and accreditation standards.
Maintains records of stored and secured medications.
Ensures controlled substances are properly stored, administered, and ordered.
Independently manages and provides direct care to patients and individuals.
Participates in individual, group, and family therapy as appropriate.
Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team in treatment planning and evaluation.
Manages an assigned caseload and other clinical activities.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to support quality patient care.
May participate in home visits and crisis intervention activities.
May share clinical knowledge and best practices.
Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
Knowledge of nursing principles, medications, assessment, treatment planning, behavioral health concepts, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse. A Bachelor's degree in Nursing may substitute for one year of experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in a behavioral health hospital setting and experience serving youth with complex psychiatric profiles.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must possess and maintain a Connecticut Registered Nurse license or qualifying multistate license.

WORKING CONDITIONS
May be required to lift and restrain individuals and may be exposed to infectious diseases or challenging patient behaviors.
