    Job Description:

    Registered Nurse Critical Care – Full-Time

    Location: AdventHealth Shawnee Mission/Float Pool Critical Care

    Schedule:Full-Time |Nights

    Position Summary

    The Registered Nurse (RN) Regional Critical Care Float Pool is responsible for delivering coordinated nursing care to patients across assigned critical care and emergency departments while managing related clinical activities. This position utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, compassionate, evidence-based, and cost-effective care. The RN collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to ensure the administration of medical and nursing plans of care in accordance with established policies, procedures, protocols, and applicable nursing practice regulations. The RN may provide direction and supervision to assigned nursing personnel and contributes to the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the healthcare team.


    • Sign-On Bonus: $10,000 for eligible candidates
    • Regional Float Pool Differential: Additional $10.00 per hour
    • Float Assignment: Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Emergency Department (ED)

    Essential Functions

    • Performs and documents accurate initial and ongoing patient assessments to evaluate patient conditions and identify healthcare needs.
    • Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized care plans in collaboration with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members.
    • Administers medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions safely and accurately in accordance with provider orders and organizational standards.
    • Monitors patient responses to medications and treatments and communicates significant findings to appropriate healthcare providers.
    • Provides leadership, guidance, and supervision to assigned nursing personnel to support safe, therapeutic, and quality patient care.
    • Educates patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, procedures, treatment plans, discharge instructions, and self-care strategies.
    • Collaborates with physicians and interdisciplinary team members to coordinate and optimize patient care.
    • Maintains complete, accurate, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
    • Supports patient safety initiatives and complies with infection prevention, quality improvement, and regulatory requirements.
    • Provides nursing care in ICU and Emergency Department settings based on competency, licensure, certifications, and organizational needs.
    • Participates in professional development, continuing education, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
    • Responds appropriately to emergency situations and changes in patient condition within the scope of licensure and competency.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Demonstrated ability to assess patient conditions, evaluate interventions, and revise plans of care using critical thinking and sound clinical judgment.
    • Knowledge of professional nursing principles, standards of care, evidence-based practice, and medication administration.
    • Basic computer proficiency, including electronic medical record systems, automated medication dispensing systems, and Microsoft Windows-based applications.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

    Knowledge and skill in the operation of critical care and emergency department equipment, including intravenous therapy devices, central lines, pulse oximetry equipment, nasogastric tubes, Foley catheters, chest tube systems, hemodynamic monitoring equipment, and related patient care technologies.

    • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to exercise independent judgment and remain calm and professional in stressful and rapidly changing situations.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, families, physicians, healthcare professionals, and team members.
    • Commitment to ongoing professional development, patient rounding practices, and EKG education requirements as applicable.
    • Ability to interpret EKG rhythms and findings based on assigned patient populations and departmental requirements.
    • Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize competing responsibilities effectively.
    • Ability to float to ICU and Emergency Department settings based on competency, licensure, certifications, and patient care needs.

    Education

    • Associate Degree in Nursing required.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

    Experience

    • One year of acute care hospital nursing experience required.
    • Critical care and/or emergency department experience preferred.

    Licensure and Certifications

    • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state required.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
    • Additional licensure or certification requirements may apply depending on department assignment, patient population, facility requirements, or state regulations.

    Pay Range:

    $34.04 - $63.31
