Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health Adult Inpatient

Location: New York, NY 10037 & Bronx, NY 10467
Schedule: 7:30 AM – 8:00 PM / 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
Hours: 36 Hours/Week

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health Adult Inpatient to provide direct nursing care to adult patients receiving inpatient behavioral health services.

The RN will be responsible for comprehensive patient assessment, medication administration, treatment planning, patient education, documentation, crisis intervention, and maintaining a safe therapeutic environment. The ideal candidate will have strong inpatient behavioral health and acute care experience and be comfortable working in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, including daily rounds, treatment team planning, in-service training, quality assurance activities, and departmental meetings.
• Conduct patient interviews and complete comprehensive initial nursing assessments upon admission and discharge.
• Assess patient conditions and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.
• Provide patient education regarding treatment, medications, health conditions, and ongoing care.
• Prepare and safely administer medications according to physician orders, nursing standards, and established protocols.
• Conduct and/or co-facilitate nursing education and therapeutic groups.
• Monitor patient progress and document nursing observations and interventions in the EMR throughout the shift.
• Participate in developing and documenting comprehensive treatment plans.
• Perform or assist with diagnostic and clinical procedures within scope of practice, including:
  • EKGs
  • Phlebotomy
  • Vital signs
  • IV insertion
• Monitor patients for changes in behavior, condition, and safety risks and communicate concerns appropriately.
• Support suicide precautions, elopement prevention, and other behavioral health safety protocols.
• Assist with the safe and appropriate use of seclusion and other behavioral health interventions in accordance with established policies.
• Participate in community meetings and small-group patient activities.
• Provide guidance and direction to ancillary staff involved in patient care activities.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment for patients.
• Collaborate with physicians, behavioral health professionals, nursing staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years of behavioral health nursing experience required.
• Recent experience in an inpatient and/or acute care setting required.
• Experience caring for adult behavioral health patients strongly preferred.
• Experience with psychiatric assessments, crisis intervention, and behavioral health safety protocols.
• Experience with EMR documentation and psychiatric screening tools.

Education & Licensure

• Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License required.
• Primary Source Verification of RN license required.
• Current AHA BLS certification required.
