Thenurse provides student centered care, guided by the principles of carecoordination, leadership, quality improvement, and community/public healthwhile employing evidence based, quality care. The school nurse's goal is to helpevery student be healthy, safe, and ready to learn. ("NASN Framework for 21stCentury Nursing Practice", 2016).• Assumes responsibility for appropriate assessment, planning, intervention,evaluation, management, and referrals with regards to student health.• Responsible for direct and indirect care given to students in compliance withschool district policies, professional standards of practice, physicians' ordersand written care plans.• Provides for the promotion and maintenance of health as well as theprevention of illness and injury.• Functions in accordance with the school district's policies and procedures andthe Montana Nurse Practice Act and Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses. QUALIFICATIONS: • Graduate of a board certified School of Nursing• Must hold a current valid nursing license in the state of MT• Current certificate of CPR (BLS accepted) and knowledge of first aid. DUTIES: • Responsible for the formulation, revision, and implementation of Individualized HealthPlans and Emergency Care Plans.• Administer prescription, over the counter, and emergency medications. Must also supervise,monitor, teach and delegate these procedures in accordance with GFPS Policies and MT BONrules.• Provides for the promotion and maintenance of health as well as the prevention of illnessand injury.• Delegate medical procedures to unlicensed personnel in accordance with the MT BONdelegation rules. Maintain appropriate records and evaluation.• Acts as a liaison between the physician, school, community, and child's home inaccommodating and improving holistic health needs of school children.• Demonstrates competence in ability to perform nursing assessments for acute and chronichealth conditions.• Implements evidence based practice in accordance with district guidelines.• Provides school-based case management for students with health conditions.• Carries out daily medical interventions in accordance with GFPS Nursing Departmentprotocols.• Exercise professional nursing judgement and follow GFPS policies and protocols regardingdisposition of students who become ill or injured at school.• Participates as appropriate with education team members in development and/or review ofIndividualized Education Plans or 504 plans.• Upholds regulations and the laws related to confidentiality, reporting of child abuse andneglect, and other health related requirements (i.e. communicable disease).• Respects the dignity, confidentiality, and rights of all students and staff in accordance withHIPPA/FERPA.• Provides leadership in the planning of proper emergency care and first aid for suddenillnesses and accidents incurred during school hours.• Assists with monitoring immunization compliance.• Ensures the maintenance of accurate nursing records, including Medicaid charting andbilling.• Provides in-service training for health related issues to staff members.• Maintains professional competencies through self-selected professional growth/continuingeducation programs.
