Join our team as a compassionate and skilled Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (RN) at our 19-bed Critical Access Hospital and Level IV Trauma Center in New Ulm, MN. The ideal candidate will be experienced in providing comprehensive obstetric care throughout the labor, delivery, postpartum, and newborn continuum while delivering exceptional, patient-centered care in a collaborative environment.
Position Details

- Shift: Nights, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Assignment Type: Travel
- Guaranteed Hours:
- 36 hours/week for confirmed 12-hour shifts
- 40 hours/week for confirmed shifts less than 12 hours
Patient Ratios & Census
- Day Shift: 1:3
- Night Shift: 1:2–3
- Weekend Shift: 1:2–3
- Average Daily Census: 1–2 patients
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care across all phases of obstetric services, including:
- Labor triage
- Antepartum care
- Intrapartum care
- Postpartum care
- Newborn care
- Perform fetal heart monitoring (FHM) and IV starts.
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe, high-quality patient care.
- Document patient care accurately using the Epic (Excellian) electronic medical record system.
- Float within scope of practice, as needed, to support patient care outside the OB unit. Responsibilities may include:
- Monitoring patients requiring observation ("watcher" assignments)
- Assisting with vital signs
- Toileting and repositioning patients
- Supporting medical-surgical staff
- No patient assignment outside of the OB unit will be required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (pending license accepted)
- Minimum 1 year of Labor & Delivery nursing experience
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Current BCLS certification
- Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- Proficiency in fetal heart monitoring and IV starts
Preferred Qualifications
- AWHONN Intermediate certification
- Previous Charge Nurse experience
Scheduling Requirements
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Every other weekend preferred (every third weekend may be considered)
- Block scheduling will be considered based on unit needs
- No on-call requirements
- Requested time off should ideally not exceed five days during the assignment
Traveler Requirements
- Candidates must reside outside a 100-mile radius of the facility to qualify as travelers.
- Pending nursing licenses are accepted.
