Job Description:

Unit Highlights:

  • PCU Thoracic Pulmonary (WT8 is a designated step-down unit for patients recovering from cardiothoracic surgical procedures including coronary bypass grafting, thoracic surgeries including esophagogastrostomy, and lung resections. We care for many patients with complex, post-operative needs including Atrium chest tube management and Thopaz chest drain management.

Schedule: Full-time, 36 hours a week

Shift: Nights, 7:00 pm - 7:00 am

Location: 601 East Rollins Street, Orlando, FL

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Assesses and interprets diagnostic data relative to patient age and condition, including lab results, non-invasive monitoring data, and interdisciplinary team notes. Makes appropriate decisions and implements interventions based on nursing diagnoses according to patients' actual or potential health conditions or needs. Sets measurable and achievable short and long-range goals for patients, developing and implementing individualized plans of care. Prioritizes and completes follow-up assessments, evaluating and modifying plans of care as needed. Completes timely assessments including physiological, psychological, developmental, sociocultural, spiritual, and lifestyle factors, including signs of abuse or neglect. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department, exhibiting a desire to learn, teach, mentor, and advance nursing skills. Applies knowledge and skills pertaining to all diagnoses, procedures, medications, complications, and equipment associated with unit patient population. Abides by American Nurses Association Scope, Standards, and Code of Ethics, participating in practice changes, process improvement initiatives, and completing all required education. Communicates effectively with the interdisciplinary team, completing thorough hand-off communication in all situations. Utilizes appropriate techniques, verbiage, and resources in all interactions with patients according to their level of understanding. Promotes an exceptional patient experience through effective communication with patients, families, and visitors, including hourly rounding. Adheres to all pertinent regulatory standards, follows strict infection prevention precautions, and ensures medication safety. Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be fluent in English (read, verbal and written skills

  • Must be able to use a high level of abstract reasoning to assess patient, evaluate interventions, and revise plan of care according to patient outcomes

Education:

  • Associate's of Nursing [Required]

  • Bachelor's of Nursing [Preferred]

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS certification [Required]

Work Experience:

  • 1+ acute care hospital setting [Preferred]
