At RWJBarnabas Health, our Registered Nurses at Children's Specialized Hospital provide compassionate, specialized care that helps children and adolescents achieve greater independence and reach meaningful rehabilitation goals. As an RN supporting the Adolescent Inpatient Rehabilitation Department, you'll care for young patients with complex medical, developmental, and rehabilitative needs while helping them navigate an important stage of recovery and growth. Working alongside families and an experienced interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, you'll combine clinical expertise, education, advocacy, and encouragement to help each patient build skills and confidence for the next phase of their journey. As a Registered Nurse (RN), a typical day may include:
- Performing comprehensive nursing assessments and utilizing the nursing process to identify the individualized medical, developmental, and rehabilitation needs of adolescent patients
- Developing, implementing, and evaluating pediatric rehabilitation plans of care that support each patient's clinical needs and functional goals
- Delivering compassionate, evidence-based nursing care while monitoring patient progress and recognizing changes that require timely clinical intervention
- Collaborating with physicians, physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, nursing professionals, and other interdisciplinary team members to promote continuity of care
- Supporting adolescents as they work toward greater independence, mobility, self-management, and achievement of individualized rehabilitation goals
- Providing age-appropriate education to patients and families regarding treatments, rehabilitation goals, ongoing healthcare needs, and strategies that support continued progress
- Incorporating families and caregivers into the rehabilitation process while recognizing their essential role in supporting successful transitions of care
- Delegating appropriate responsibilities to Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and nursing assistants based on patient needs, staff competencies, and established standards of practice
- Serving as a clinical resource and role model for LPNs, nurse externs, nursing assistants, nursing students, and newly hired staff
- Assuming relief Charge Nurse responsibilities as needed while communicating patient needs and clinical concerns to nursing leadership and demonstrating sound problem-solving skills

To be considered for this Registered Nurse opportunity, you must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing and hold an active New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing. Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Provider certification is required. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification is required for inpatient nursing and, if not held at the time of hire, must be obtained within one year. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is preferred, along with previous pediatric and/or rehabilitation nursing experience. For per diem opportunities, a minimum of one year of pediatric nursing experience is required. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical assessment, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, along with a commitment to helping adolescents and their families achieve meaningful rehabilitation goals through compassionate, individualized care.
