STATE HOSPITAL SOUTH - SYRINGA CHALET NURSING FACILITY

We are seeking two part-time, temporary Registered Nurses (RN) who are caring and have a passion for helping others. State Hospital South (SHS) is located in beautiful Southeast Idaho, an area best known for its Oregon Trail and Native American history, amazing fly fishing, towering mountain peaks, and abundant wildlife and awe-inspiring geological sites.

SHS provides psychiatric inpatient treatment and skilled nursing care for Idahos adult citizens with the most serious and persistent mental illnesses. The hospital works in partnership with families and communities to enable clients to return to community living. SHS includes 110 psychiatric adult beds and 42 skilled nursing beds. It also maintains a statewide program to restore the competency of criminal justice patients.

The 42 skilled nursing beds in the Syringa Chalet Nursing Facility offer services to consumers with a history of behavioral or psychiatric illness. This position is not eligible for telework.

STATE OF IDAHO EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is a drug-free workplace. Any applicant offered employment in this position at the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test. In addition, successful candidates will be required to complete a criminal history background investigation. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory results of the investigation.

Temporary positions are limited to working 1385 hours in a 12-month period for any one state agency. Employees are eligible for benefits if they work twenty (20) hours or more per week and the term of employment is expected to exceed five (5) continuous months.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Performs practical nursing care or assists a registered nurse or physician in routine to complex situations in clinics, private homes, or state institutions.

• Observes records and reports patients treatment, care, symptoms, physical and mental condition, behavior, and progress
• Administers prescribed medications, including intramuscular injections, and observes for adverse reactions
• Performs treatments, including changing sterile dressings, insertion of nasal, gastric tubes, catheterizations, and removal of sutures
• Interviews patients to obtain health information and instructs and counsels patients regarding basic health needs
• Teaches patients and their families the importance of proper diet, proper positioning, range-of-motion exercises, transfer techniques, and personal hygiene procedures
• Charts administered medications, symptoms, accidents, unusual behavior, doctors visits, and observed side effects of drugs
• Orders lab and x-ray work under physicians orders

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position. Please make sure your resume or work history supports your meeting the minimum qualifications for this position. Failure to do this may disqualify you from being considered for this position.

• Requires current licensure as a Registered Nurse or state licensure as a Registered Nurse pursuant to the Nurse Licensure Compact (Idaho Code 54-1418)
