Health Services - Registered Nurse RN Substitute

NOTE: These positions are as needed and require assignments to various schools throughout the school year as the need arises. The duties include but are not limited to:

Provides health appraisal of students. Reports suspected child abuse cases. Consults community agencies to obtain services and financial assistance. Assists in implementing the policies and procedures for the control of communicable diseases within the school. Administers medications and records on student health records according to school protocol. Assists with enforcement of the regulations for mandatory immunization. Assists in implementing the first aid program in local schools. Provides and supervises special procedures according to the Nurse Practice Act. Supervises the implementation of Health Services Policies and Procedures. Serves as a health liaison between the home and the school relative to established health programs. Counsels with parents, teachers, and other health professionals regarding student health problems. Investigates health problems of students. Rides the school bus with students in order to provide nursing services if needed. Interprets the school health program to the community. Engages in personal professional growth and demonstrates professional ethics and leadership. Communicates effectively with Supervisor of Health Services and Registered Nurse assigned to the school.

Substitutes are not under contract and will be called for work by the Supervisor of Health Services as needed for local schools, field trips, and other school functions as needed. Substitutes may be required to work flexible and extended hours to provide health services for students. Performs other duties as requested by the Principal or Supervisor of Health Services.

QUALIFICATIONS

Graduate of School of Nursing approved by State Board. A Baccalaureate degree is preferred. Must possess a current RN license to practice nursing in the State of Alabama. Must have at least three years of experience in a hospital or community health setting. Must be computer literate with good communication skills. Must offer client-centered care. Must complete an orientation and training class held by the Department of Health Services. Must have a substitute certificate from the Department of Human Resources.

Salary Range: From $33 PER MCPSS SALARY SCHEDULE TO Additional Job Information

Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo or have undergone an ABIFBI criminal history background check fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.
