    Description

    Job Title: Registered Nurse – Special Care Nursery/ NICU

    Location: Edison, NJ

    Assignment Duration: 10 Weeks

    Schedule

    • Shift: Days
    • Hours: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
    • Schedule: 3 x 12-hour shifts
    • Hours per Week: 36
    • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend, as needed
    • On-Call: None
    • Float Requirement: No floating, except when caring for newborns in the Postpartum unit as needed

    Position Overview

    We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse – Special Care Nursery/ NICU to provide specialized nursing care for newborns in a Level II Special Care Nursery. The ideal candidate will have experience caring for premature and medically fragile infants (32 weeks gestation and above), strong neonatal assessment skills, and a commitment to delivering compassionate, family-centered care.

    Responsibilities

    • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care for neonates admitted to the Special Care Nursery.
    • Monitor newborns for changes in respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, and overall clinical status.
    • Administer medications, IV fluids, feedings, and treatments according to physician orders and neonatal care protocols.
    • Provide comprehensive care for premature and medically fragile infants in a Level II Special Care Nursery.
    • Collaborate with neonatologists, pediatricians, respiratory therapists, lactation consultants, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
    • Educate and support parents and caregivers regarding newborn care, feeding, discharge planning, and infant safety.
    • Accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record.
    • Promote evidence-based nursing practices while maintaining a safe, patient-centered environment.
    • Assist with newborn care in the Postpartum unit when required.

    Required Qualifications

    Education

    • Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN) required.
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

    Experience

    • Minimum 1 year of recent Level II Special Care Nursery (SCN) experience required.
    • Minimum 3 years of Mother-Baby nursing experience required.
    • Experience caring for newborns, including premature and medically fragile infants.

    Required Licensure & Certifications

    • Active New Jersey Registered Nurse (RN) License or Multistate Compact RN License.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA).
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).

    • This is an excellent opportunity for experienced SCN/NICU nurses seeking a contract assignment in a collaborative neonatal care environment.
