The Louisiana State Penitentiary is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Registered Nurse Supervisor A, a key leadership role within the institution's medical department. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the delivery of quality healthcare services within a correctional environment while supervising nursing staff and maintaining compliance with medical policies, procedures, and professional standards.
The Registered Nurse Supervisor A will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily activities of nursing staff, ensuring adequate staffing coverage, reviewing medical documentation, and assisting in the implementation of medical policies and procedures. The incumbent will work closely with physicians, medical staff, security personnel, and administration to ensure that healthcare services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with departmental regulations and professional nursing standards.
This position requires strong leadership, sound clinical judgment, and the ability to work in a structured and secure environment. The Registered Nurse Supervisor A will also assist in training and mentoring nursing staff, monitoring performance, ensuring proper documentation and medication administration practices, and responding to medical situations that arise within the facility.

Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a current Louisiana Registered Nurse license or a temporary permit or multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state to practice as a registered nurse plus one of the following:
Three years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
A bachelors degree in nursing plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
A masters degree in nursing or public health plus two years of experience as a licensed registered nurse; OR
A doctorate in nursing or public health plus one year of experience as a licensed registered nurse.

Work with adult male inmates of all custody levels - minimum, medium, maximum (death row) and protective custody.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE
Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $39.12 per hour.
There is also a Premium Pay rate up to $5.00 per hour for each hour worked based on years of service with DOC, in addition to regular pay.
