Responsibilities:
Preoperative Phase:
- Conduct patient assessments, including medical history and physical status
- Verify surgical consent, site, and procedure
- Educate patients and families about the surgical process and recovery expectations
- Prepare patients physically and emotionally for surgery
Postoperative Phase:
- Monitor patients in the recovery phase - PACU and Phase 2
- Assess vital signs, pain level, and surgical site
- Administer medications and manage pain control
- Provide discharge instructions and patient education
- Recognize and respond to complications
General Duties:
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary team members
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and safety standards
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff education
- Support a culture of safety, teamwork, and accountability
Qualifications:
- Current Indiana Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; ACLS and/or PALS within 3 months of employment
- Strong clinical judgment, communication, and organizational skills
