Summary

Under the direction of the department manager and under supervision of a charge nurse, responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality patient-family centered care. Proficiency in administering the fundamentals of the nursing process, contributes to the nursing assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. Develops and participates in the care plan of the patient. Must share in department call coverage.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Current and unencumbered licensure or Interim Permit as a Registered Nurse (RN) through the Nevada State Board of Nursing
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) for heathcare providers within 90 days of hire

Unit Specific Requirements:

Endoscopy:

Required:

  • One (1) year GI lab/endoscopy experience or a minimum of one (1) year acute care nursing experience

Preferred:

  • Experience in a critical care setting (e.g. ICU, CCU, or ER)
  • Certified Gastroenterology Registered Nurse (CGRN) Certification

Essential Functions

  • Performs assessment and evaluation of the patient by assessing vital signs, notes changes, and pursues more specific investigation as needed.
  • Identifies abnormal diagnostic data and shows a fundamental understanding of its implications by reporting information to the physician and others caring for the patient, and by incorporating information in the nursing care plan.
  • Adheres to performing/receiving bedside handover as per organizational standards.
  • Uses assessment information to develop a care plan that communicates enough information for incoming personnel to adequately care for the patient.
  • Includes the patient and his or her family in planning care, establishing priorities, and setting goals.
  • Documents an individualized care plan based upon the changing needs of the patient and incorporates each patients' chronic and acute conditions.
  • Consistently follows established standards, policies and procedures in providing nursing care.
  • Accepts accountability for clinical care of assigned patients, including supervision of non-professional personnel.
  • Identifies patient teaching needs and provides elementary instructions for the patient and his or her family.
  • Notes discharge planning elements and incorporates these in care plans
  • Responds appropriately in urgent and/or emergency situations
  • Evaluates and notes the individual patient's response to nursing care defined in the nursing care plan and medical records.
  • Appropriately delegates and supervises care scheduled by non-professional personnel, providing instruction as needed.
  • The RN will be expected to make evidence-based practice recommendations for improvement of the delivery of patient care via the patient care conference and unit conference.
  • May be required to function as Team Leader
  • Assists/Serves in the teaching/preceptor role for student nurses and other allied health professionals with clinical time on the Unit.
  • Demonstrates proficiency as defined in the position/group/department checklists and unit specific competency standards.
  • Registered Nurses may practice to the full extent of their licensure and certifications.
  • Assignments may include procedural sedation and accompanying competencies required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
