Join Mercy St. Louis on our Telemetry Level 2 (Tele2) unit, a fast-paced, high-acuity environment designed for nurses who enjoy critical thinking and dynamic patient care. Tele2 provides care at an acuity level between stepdown and general med-tele, offering an excellent opportunity to build advanced clinical skills.
Although smaller in size, this unit mirrors the patient complexity and clinical expectations of our MPCU/CPCU units, making it ideal for nurses seeking stepdown-level experience in a more close-knit setting.

What Sets Tele2 Apart

  • Higher acuity than traditional Med Tele units

  • Equivalent in clinical complexity to MPCU/CPCU, but in a smaller, more intimate unit setting

  • Strong exposure to cardiac and respiratory conditions requiring close monitoring

  • Excellent steppingstone for nurses interested in stepdown or critical care pathways

Patient Population

You will care for adult patients (18–100 years) with a variety of acute conditions, including:

  • Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)

  • Chest pain (pre-procedural monitoring prior to surgery/intervention)

  • Patients requiring high oxygen support

  • Cardiac and respiratory conditions requiring continuous telemetry

  • Overflow from SPCU (surgical cardiac patients)

Admission Sources

  • Primarily Emergency Department admissions

  • Some direct admits (not requiring ICU level care)

  • Occasional post-operative admissions

Patient Flow

  • Short stay unit with rapid turnover

  • Approximately:

    • 50% discharge to home or skilled facility

    • 50% may transfer to higher or specialized levels of care if needed

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, patient-centered care in a telemetry setting

  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms and clinical changes

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate care plans

  • Manage patients with moderate to high acuity needs

  • Educate patients and families on treatment plans and discharge instructions

Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).

  • Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.

  • Certifications: Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire.

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 185 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who wanted to help the poor women and children of Dublin. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill her dreams. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to poor women and educate children. Many volunteers came to help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, the first religious order not bound to the rules of the cloister, whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. By the time Catherine died in 1841, there were convents in Ireland and England, and in 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1871, they traveled to St. Louis and from there throughout the Midwest, beginning what would, today be known as Mercy.
