Summary/Objective
The Trauma Registrar is responsible for the management of the Trauma Registry, data collection, data entry, data quality and integrity which is vital in supporting the Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety program. Provides advanced critical thinking skills utilizing nursing judgement to extrapolate all pertinent trauma diagnoses, procedures and complications after thorough review of the medical record. Performs Utilization Review on trauma and trauma surgery admissions. Is an active participant in quality meetings conducted by Trauma Services.
A. Assessment: the registered nurse collects comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or the situation and enters this data into the Trauma Registry.
B. Diagnosis: the registered nurse analyzes the assessment data to determine the diagnoses or issues.
C. Outcomes Identification: the registered nurse identifies expected outcomes for a plan individualized to the patient or the situation.
D. Planning: the registered nurse develops a plan that prescribes strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes.
E. Implementation: the registered nurse implements the identified plan, coordinates care delivery, employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment.
F. Evaluation: the registered nurse evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.
G. Quality of Practice: the registered nurse systematically enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.

Required Education and Experience
Graduate of an accredited nursing program
2-3 years related experience in surgical, critical care or emergency nursing.
Required License/Certifications
Current RN License in the state of Texas
BLS certification
ACLS certification
PALS or ENPC certification
TNCC certification
Preferred or within 60 days of hire: Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM) course, American Trauma Society (ATS) Trauma Registrar Course.
Obtain the American Trauma Society Certified Specialist Trauma Registry (CSTR) within 18 months of hire
