Registered Nurse – Vent Unit Supervisor

Location: Oneida , New York
Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Schedule: 12-Hour Day Shift
License: Active NY RN License Required
Experience: Minimum 2 Years of Vent Unit & Supervisory Experience

Job Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) assigned to the Vent Unit provides direct nursing care to residents requiring ventilator support while also serving as the House Supervisor, responsible for overseeing nursing operations and resident care throughout the entire building during the assigned shift.

The RN coordinates individualized resident care, supervises and delegates nursing activities performed by CNAs and Ward Clerks, collaborates with physicians and the interdisciplinary team, and ensures compliance with established care plans, treatment protocols, and facility policies.

Please Note: This is not limited to the Vent Unit. The RN will function as the House Supervisor and provide clinical oversight across the entire facility during the shift.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to residents requiring ventilator support and other complex nursing needs.
  • Serve as House Supervisor with responsibility for oversight of the entire building during the assigned shift.
  • Delegate, implement, and supervise nursing staff in accordance with resident care plans and facility policies.
  • Supervise CNAs, Ward Clerks, and other assigned staff and ensure appropriate completion of duties.
  • Monitor residents for changes in condition and use sound nursing judgment to determine appropriate interventions.
  • Collaborate with physicians regarding resident rounds, orders, changes in condition, and ongoing care needs.
  • Communicate changes or additions to resident care plans to appropriate staff.
  • Enter physician orders into the electronic system and coordinate with the pharmacy as needed.
  • Review resident consultations and communicate relevant updates to physicians and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Coordinate and schedule resident appointments and communicate appointment details to families or responsible parties.
  • Participate in daily meetings, resident care plan meetings, IDT meetings, family meetings, and discharge planning.
  • Assist with development and implementation of resident care plans and changes in level of care.
  • Administer and oversee medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and facility policies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including vital signs, medication administration, treatments, incidents, and changes in resident condition.
  • Assist with wound care, equipment preparation, resident hygiene, bathing, dining room assistance, and incontinence care as needed.
  • Maintain compliance with controlled substance policies, narcotic counts, medication management, and required documentation.
  • Promptly report incidents, medication errors, accidents, suspected abuse, neglect, mistreatment, or exploitation according to facility policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Notify physicians and appropriate clinical leadership promptly when resident conditions require further evaluation.
  • Respond appropriately to building emergencies and ensure necessary staff are notified.
  • Work collaboratively with nursing leadership and members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure quality resident care.
  • Provide support and guidance to staff while maintaining a safe, respectful, and resident-centered environment.
  • Perform other nursing and supervisory duties as assigned by the Unit Manager or Nursing Supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • Current and active New York RN License.
  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of Vent Unit / ventilator-care experience preferred/required.
  • Previous Nursing Supervisor / House Supervisor experience required.
  • Strong clinical assessment, leadership, delegation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple resident care priorities and oversee facility operations during the assigned shift.
  • Experience working with ventilator-dependent and medically complex residents preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nursing staff, residents, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
