Job Title: Registered Pharmacy Technician

Job Description

This role provides high-quality pharmacy support and customer service by handling inbound and outbound calls, processing prescriptions, coordinating deliveries, and supporting pharmacological services in a fast-paced clinic pharmacy. The Registered Pharmacy Technician responds to a wide range of patient and provider inquiries, assists with insurance and prior authorization processes, and ensures accurate and timely prescription fulfillment while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA privacy and security regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to inbound and outbound calls from patients, caregivers, referral sources, and other healthcare providers while delivering a high level of customer service.
  • Answer questions related to pharmacy services, medication delivery, refill status, and general pharmacy assistance.
  • Handle a wide variety of inquiries regarding products, services, and timeliness of receipt of goods and services.
  • Address and help resolve customer complaints and service-related issues in a professional and timely manner.
  • Receive and process new pharmacy referrals accurately and efficiently.
  • Verify insurance coverage and facilitate prior authorization requests as needed.
  • Accurately transcribe prescriptions into the pharmacy system when qualified and authorized to do so.
  • Generate reports that follow the cycle fill calendar to support refill processing and scheduling.
  • Send and follow up on refill requests via e-scribe, facsimile, or phone, ensuring timely responses from prescribers.
  • Coordinate prescription delivery to patients, including scheduling and confirming delivery details.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for service-related inquiries and associated patient needs.
  • Support pharmacological services by reviewing and editing fill list verification, including insurance information, last fill date, billing details, toting, and medication alignment (short fills) according to the cycle fill calendar.
  • Align patient medications by following the cycle fill calendar to help synchronize refills and improve adherence.
  • Update and maintain accurate patient information in the pharmacy system whenever changes occur.
  • Coordinate initiation of care with patients or caregivers, referral sources, and other providers of care.
  • Enter patient information into the patient record accurately and completely, ensuring compliance with HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
  • Assist with labeling, dispensing, and billing activities as required, within the scope of practice and training.
  • Perform data entry tasks when qualified and as needed, particularly for those with QS1 experience.
  • Collaborate closely with pharmacists and pharmacy technicians to manage a high-volume prescription workload.
  • Report directly to the Pharmacy Manager and, in their absence, to the Director of Operations, following established policies and procedures.

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Completion of a board-approved pharmacy technician training program.
  • Valid Florida Pharmacy Technician License.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a medical insurance, billing, or customer service environment.
  • Strong knowledge of medication brands, generics, dosing, and day supply calculations.
  • Pharmacy experience with responsibilities such as labeling, filling, dispensing support, and assisting with billing.
  • Ability to perform data entry when qualified, with preference for QS1 system experience.
  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Excel and Access.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • DME (Durable Medical Equipment) experience.
  • Telephonic customer service experience in a healthcare or pharmacy setting.
  • Bilingual English-Spanish communication skills.
  • Prior authorization experience in a pharmacy or medical environment.
  • Data entry experience, particularly within pharmacy systems such as QS1.
  • Willingness and ability to learn new computer software and systems.
  • Experience working in a high-volume pharmacy environment.
  • Comfort working with cycle fill calendars and medication synchronization processes.

Work Environment

This position is 100% onsite in a clinic pharmacy environment that is fast-paced and high volume. The pharmacy team typically includes approximately six pharmacy technicians and three pharmacists, with staffing that may include three technicians and one PharmD on Saturdays. The team processes around 1,500 prescriptions per week, requiring strong coordination, focus, and teamwork. The standard schedule is Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The environment involves frequent patient and provider interaction, extensive use of pharmacy software systems, and regular use of Microsoft Office applications. Team members work in a professional clinical setting that emphasizes accuracy, efficiency, confidentiality, and adherence to HIPAA regulations.

This is a Contract position based out of Oakland Park, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
