Registered Project Surveyor

Role Description: Huitt-Zollars has a great full-time time opportunity for a Project Surveyor at our Irvine/Thousand Oaks office. The candidate will ideally have at least 7+ years of land surveying, construction, boundary and topographic surveying. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a premier architectural and engineering firm that's on the leading edge of design and national development.

Reports to: Survey Manager

Employment type: 40 FT Hours

Registration(s): California LSIT or Professional Land Surveyor registration required

Duties:

  • Produce CAD drawings on projects including boundary, topographic, land title surveys and construction calculations
  • Assist in reviews and processes results of field surveys
  • Assist in tracking project scopes and budgets
  • Prepare legal descriptions
  • Research survey records and land titles to obtain information regarding property boundaries, areas to be surveyed
  • Coordinate research findings with work of engineers, clients and others involved in projects
  • Verifies accuracy of field survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites
  • Prepare data, charts, plots maps, records and documents related to surveys
  • Perform other related land survey project tasks as needed

Key Responsibilities:

  • Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and may be responsible for a stated portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy.
  • Successfully and consistently functions as Lead Principal-in-Charge for their designated Practice Area in geographic market.
  • Competent, knowledgeable, service leader in the market(s) they service.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
  • Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client). Verifies client satisfaction routinely and shares feedback with team.
  • Proactively works with PM to strategize resolving issues that impact project performance. Reviews progress with PM at least monthly (including & completes vs. % spent) and that PM is adhering to weekly rhythm.
  • Successfully contributes to the overall profitability and financial performance on projects.
  • Oversees staff deliverables and production assigned to their projects to ensure client, legal, and company requirements are met.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years' experience
  • California LSIT or Professional Land Surveyor registration required
  • Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Experience with Autodesk survey databases
  • Knowledge of field staking procedures and interpreting design plans
  • Experience with Trimble Business Center for surveying support, GPS adjustments, and processing scanning data a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook a plus
  • Knowledge and experience in the principals and practice of land surveying in California
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills for supervising field crews, and working collaboratively with teams of engineers, architects and sub-contractors
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D required knowledge of Micro-Station and Trimble Business Center a plus

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, type/key-in data
  • May lift and carry up to 50 pounds, hike up and down steep slopes carrying up to 50 pounds of survey equipment
  • The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities
  • Employee may be asked to walk on uneven terrain
  • May work in extreme weather conditions
  • Bend, squat, dig monument holes, pound in stakes and rebar monuments
  • Carry and use brush cutting equipment
  • May drive survey vehicle

Annual Base Salary Range: $137,000-$161,000 and up depending on experience and qualifications of the selected candidate(s). The expected salary range for this position is displayed in accordance with the California Equal Pay for Equal Work Act. The final agreed upon compensation is based on the success candidate's individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and consideration to participate in our discretionary annual bonus incentive program.
