Job Summary:
Performs basic and critical respiratory care services. Has the ability to work well without supervision as well as maintain supervision over others, as delegated. Provides respiratory care services for the adult and geriatric patient. Provides respiratory care for patients with respiratory disease, as ordered by the physician and in accordance with current department policies concerning all phases of respiratory therapy. Completes paperwork, electronic medical records, flow sheets, and charges for each patient.

Education and Work Experience:
Graduate of an approved Respiratory Therapy Program: Required
Licenses/Certifications:
Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license: Required
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: Required
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification: Required
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification: Required
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification: Required
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT): Preferred
Essential Functions:
Assesses and documents the appropriateness of prescribed respiratory therapy and recommends modifications when appropriate.
Administers aerosol and oxygen therapy and maintains accurate patient records.
Draws arterial blood gases according to policy and physician orders.
Provides care for mechanically ventilated patients.
Assists with department operations, record keeping, training, and supervision of new staff.
Documents treatments provided and maintains required clinical records.
Assists nursing personnel with respiratory equipment setup and monitoring.
Performs pulmonary function tests, drainage procedures, and additional respiratory care.
Assists in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and educates patients and families regarding respiratory conditions and treatments.
Monitors respiratory therapy equipment to ensure proper operation and readiness.
Ensures compliance with ventilator care protocols and infection prevention measures.
Evaluates patient response to therapy and updates treatment plans based on clinical condition.
Assists with maintenance, cleaning, setup, stocking, and processing of respiratory therapy equipment.
Serves as a respiratory care resource for physicians and clinical staff.
Assists physicians during bronchoscopies and other specialized procedures.
Supports quality improvement activities, staff competencies, and scheduling as assigned.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
