Job Summary:
Performs basic and critical respiratory care services. Has the ability to work well without supervision as well as maintain supervision over others, as delegated. Provides respiratory care services for the adult and geriatric patient. Provides respiratory care for patients with respiratory disease, as ordered by the physician and in accordance with current department policies concerning all phases of respiratory therapy. Completes paperwork, electronic medical records, flow sheets, and charges for each patient.

Education and Work Experience:
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent (some certifications will require Bachelor's): Preferred
Master's Degree: Preferred
Three years' technical experience: Preferred
Licenses/Certifications:
Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-RRT) credential or Certified Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-CRT): Required
Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license: Required
Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification: Required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS): Required
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP): Preferred
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS): Preferred
Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS): Preferred
Registered or Certified by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC): Required
Essential Functions:
Assesss and documents the appropriateness of prescribed respiratory therapy, including recommendations.
Administers aerosol and oxygen therapy while maintaining accurate patient charts.
Draws arterial blood gases per physician order and policy.
Provides care for mechanically ventilated patients.
Assists with department operations, record keeping, and training of new staff.
Documents treatments, maintains records, and completes required charge documentation.
Assists nursing staff with patient and equipment monitoring.
Performs pulmonary function tests, drainage procedures, and additional respiratory care.
Monitors patient progress and recommends appropriate treatment adjustments.
Provides cardiopulmonary rehabilitation support.
Educates patients and families regarding respiratory disease and treatment.
Conducts routine checks of respiratory therapy equipment.
Ensures compliance with ventilator and VAP bundle protocols.
Evaluates patient outcomes and modifies therapy as appropriate.
Updates patient diagnoses based on changing clinical condition.
Maintains, cleans, processes, and prepares respiratory therapy equipment.
Serves as a respiratory care resource for physicians and hospital staff.
Assists with inventory, ordering, and specialty equipment setup.
Assists physicians during bronchoscopies and other special procedures.
Supports quality control activities, staff scheduling, and competency programs.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
