Summary/Objective The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for planning and administering medically prescribed respiratory therapy and evaluating the patient's pulmonary function. This Clinical position requires skills and experience evaluating and increasing a patient's pulmonary function. The Respiratory Therapist must support the mission of providing Sacred Work to all who enter the doors of Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas.

Utilizes specialized knowledge of respiratory therapy principles in the provision of critical care services including but not limited to: • CPR • Airway Management • Ventilator Management: initiation, assessment, monitoring, and adjustments

Maintains high degree of competency in the operation of equipment in the Department to include trouble-shooting and minor repair.

Utilizes specialized knowledge of respiratory therapy procedures in performing diagnostic studies: • Bedside spirometry • Pulmonary mechanics • Blood gas analysis • Electrocardiograms

Selects, assembles, and checks equipment for proper function, operation, and cleanliness, including correction of malfunctions. Cleans and disinfects equipment per department policy and procedure. Utilizes supplies appropriately and assists with cost containment.

Utilizes specialized knowledge of respiratory therapy procedures in performing general therapy: • Including but not limited to oxygen therapy • Aerosol therapy • Aerosol medication therapy • Chest physiotherapy • Volume expansion therapy • IPPB

Assesses, conducts, monitors and modifies prescribed therapy to achieve plan of care goals and recommends adjustments as appropriate based on patients response to therapy.

Required Education and Experience Associates degree in Respiratory Therapy from a CoARC accredited training program. Registered through the National Board for Respiratory Care

Required License/Certifications Licensed by the Texas Medical Board as a Respiratory Care Practitioner; Current BLS (CPR) certification required within 30 days of hire; NRP certification required for NICU Therapists.
