The Regulatory Compliance Advisor contributes to the ongoing management of the Credit Union's compliance Compliance Management System, ensuring the Credit Union is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. This role is responsible for identifying possible areas of exposure to prevent violations of a law, rule or regulation and provide regulatory guidance, along with strategizing with business units to ensure the Credit Union’s compliance.
Responsibilities:• Contributes to ongoing management of the Credit Union's Compliance Program and other items of the Compliance Management System ensuring the Credit Union is in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
• Evaluate each Credit Union’s business units’ policies to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations and confirming that their procedures align with the policies
• Provides compliance-related information to and answers question from other business units
• Identifies and assesses key compliance risks to ensure that ongoing internal controls and newly developed products, processes and services have appropriate controls to mitigate eminent risk to the Credit Union
• Analyzes Non-SCU Enforcement Actions and works with Business Units to ensure the Credit Union has processes in place that are not the same as those in the Consent Order
• Ensures regulatory changes or updates to policy or procedure are communicated to impacted Business Units, or the Credit Union as a whole, with clarity
• Follows up to ensure new procedures are understood and implemented
• Prepares information for the Strategic and Advocacy Working Group to determine if the Credit Union will respond to Request for Information (RFI) from various regulatory bodies
• Assists with collecting compliance data from business units for use by internal and external auditors
• Administers compliance management system software and maintains user database
• Maintain knowledge and understanding of current trends, laws, and issues affecting the area of expertise
• Attend educational events to increase professional knowledge
• Complete annual compliance and info security training to understand employees' role in maintaining effective compliance and security programs
• Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, or a related field. (A comparable combination of work experience and training may be substituted for education requirements.)
• 3 or more years progressively responsible operations compliance or similar experience
• Certified Credit Union Compliance Officer (CUCO) designation preferred or obtained within 1 year of accepting role
• Ability to prioritize tasks by effectively managing competing and changing priorities to meet deadlines
• Accurate, detail-oriented, and organized with task management
• Ability to analyze and resolve difficult and often complex problems or situations
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively with members, staff, vendors, and government regulators
• Strong knowledge and understanding of credit union products, services, policies, and procedures
• Strong knowledge and understanding of regulatory compliance
• Strong knowledge and understanding of credit union computer systems and software applications required to perform job duties
