    Description

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelors degree in Architecture, Engineering, Building Construction, or a related field. Must possess a State of Florida Professional Engineer license, State of Florida Registered Architect license, or General Contractor license with a Certificate of Competency issued by the Florida Construction Industry Licensing Board or Miami-Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board. Nine years of professional engineering or architectural experience in the construction industry are required, including five years under the license. Applicants must possess a Building Code Administrator license issued by the Florida Building Code Administration and Inspection Board or obtain one within 18 months of hire, as specified in Chapter 468, Florida Statutes, and meet all eligibility requirements for certification as a Building Official by the Miami-Dade County Board of Rules and Appeals under Chapter 8 of the Code of Miami-Dade County. All licenses and certificates must be in good standing with Miami-Dade Countys Contracting Licensing and Enforcement Section and/or the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, with no pending complaints. Applicants qualifying with a General Contractor license must inactivate their certification at their own expense upon employment.

    Recruitment Notes

    This position directly reports to the Building Official of Unincorporated Miami-Dade County and is responsible for directing the day-to-day operations of permit application intake, plan processing, inspection of construction in progress, and issuance of Certificates of Occupancy and Use. Incumbents in this role also collaborate with enforcement activities to ensure compliance with the Florida Building Code (FBC), the Miami-Dade County Code, and other applicable codes and regulations that protect the life, safety, and welfare of the community.

    In addition, this position develops legislative goals and objectives and monitors the development of administrative orders, ordinances, resolutions, reports, and BCC agenda items. The Deputy Building Official also recommends service delivery improvements to enable the department to keep current with the County's operating environment and the State and Federal regulatory environment.
