Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Neurology is seeking a compassionate and motivated Rehab Aide II to join the Marilyn Hilton MS Achievement Center (MSAC). In this role, you will support a multidisciplinary team in delivering innovative wellness and rehabilitation programs for individuals living with multiple sclerosis. Under the direction of the Executive Director, Recreation Therapist, Fitness Specialist, and other clinical staff, you will assist with yoga, fitness, cognitive stimulation, art therapy, and recreational therapy programs, support daily program operations, and help create a welcoming and engaging environment for participants. Working collaboratively with physical and occupational therapists, yoga instructors, and community partners, you will play an integral role in advancing the Center's mission of promoting health, independence, and quality of life for individuals living with multiple sclerosis.

Hourly range: $26.83-$33.75

Required:

  • Ability to safely perform repetitive bending, stooping, squatting, standing and sitting during full workday using proper body mechanics. Normal duties involve frequent lifting (up to 35 pounds), transferring members, and pushing an occupied wheelchair (up to 500 feet).
  • Ability to communicate with members, families, volunteers and staff from varied cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds in an effective, constructive and professional manner.
  • Ability to work as a member of the interdisciplinary team, including sharing knowledge, giving and receiving feedback, taking initiative to assist others, problem solving and providing an atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Familiarity with basic computer functions including word processing programs, spreadsheet programs and online mail systems.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and human anatomy, specific to MS.
  • Ability to appropriately perform, observe or assist in a wide variety of adaptive exercise activities and recreational activities, consistently, safely and accurately.
  • Ability to identify the need for and utilize appropriate safety and/or emergency techniques, CPR and infection control.
  • Ability to clearly document objective member care activities, following Center policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (in written and verbal form) with members, families, volunteers, co- workers and other professionals.
  • Ability to clean and maintain the member care areas, equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to assign to and supervise tasks by volunteers within their technical and legal capabilities and according to Center policy.
  • Ability to provide an environment conducive to safe, quality care by using proper body mechanics, providing timely communication, removal of defective equipment, and suitable response to emergency situations and/or identification of potential problem situations.

  • Reading skills to understand documents such as intake forms, staff or member written instructions, Center guidelines and other documentation forms written in standard English text.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others to achieve a common goal which is consistent with the Center's, Department's, School of Medicine and University's Mission and Vision Statement.
  • Skill in assessing and responding proactively to customer needs and concerns.
  • Ability to meet and maintain high quality of work performance as established by supervisor.
  • Ability to adhere to established punctuality and attendance rules.
  • Ability to monitor heart rate and blood pressure.
  • Knowledge of the impact of MS on an individual's physical and emotional well-being, as well as knowledge of resources available to assist with education and health promotion.
  • Sufficient dexterity and strength to perform standard duties including member care, documentation and equipment use.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of etiology, course, prognosis and manifestations of MS and other common disease processes.

Preferred:

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with associates or bachelor's in exercise science, kinesiology, physical education, or related allied health field.
  • Current BCLS certification.
