Summary:

Assists the Rehabilitation Services Director in the management of the Inpatient Rehabilitation department operations. Coordinates administration of patient care activities utilized in department and act as co-manager with other Rehabilitation Services Manager in the absence of the Rehabilitation Services Director. Directly manages daily clinical operations for NOMC and NORH as it relates to physical, occupational, speech therapy and audiological services. Oversees staff as designated.

Other information:

Sufficient experience as a staff therapist with some supervisory experience preferred.Specialized or Technical Education Required:Graduate of an accredited program in physical/occupational/speech therapy. License and registration as required. Continuing education in management preferred.Manual or Physical Skill Required:Body mechanics.Working knowledge of proper equipment used for rehabilitation treatments.Physical Effort Required:Intermittent exertion in positioning, lifting, transferring patients, equipment or other materials. Responsibilities:

  1. Provide comprehensive administrative support in the day-to-day operations of the Inpatient areas of the Rehabilitation Services Department to the Rehabilitation Services Director.2. Provide approved administrative and decision-making support for the department in the absence of the Rehabilitation Services Director.3. Keep Rehabilitation Services Director informed of activities, needs, and problems on timely basis.4. Insure that decisions regarding assigned management areas/staff are integrated with those in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Department and the Rehabilitation Service Line, in order to promote cohesiveness and uniformity of functions within the department/service line.5. Assist in directing therapy activities, operations and assigned staff, implementing policies and procedures, development of programs, review of therapy performance (including outcomes), effecting changes as needed, assuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Keep Rehabilitation Services Director informed of problems, activities, needed equipment, materials and personnel6. Personnel/Staffing: Oversees the personnel supervision inclusive of, but not limited to the following: personnel staffing and coverage, staff workflow, personnel time off, competency and licensure standards, time and attendance processes, position placement and training in order to suit the needs of patients and institution.7. Assist in selection, training/orientation, assignment, guidance, peer review and supervision of staff, development of standards of performance and monitoring productivity, evaluation of performance and making recommendations for personnel actions. Encourage professional development of the inpatient therapy department personnel as well as support staff. Conduct in-service education programs for nursing, clinical care and department staff on site.8. Identify and assess training and educational needs of designated employees and develop and/or conduct orientation, training and in-service programs to ensure the efficient and accurate operations of designated areas. Promote educational experience for all staff. Teach patients, other staff members and student affiliates the s of rehabilitation therapy. Instruct subordinates, patients/families in the use of rehabilitation equipment or machinery.9. Identify patient needs and develop quality Rehabilitation programs to meet these needs; assure delivery of quality services for site inpatients and outpatients.10. Continuously stay abreast of new reimbursement and coding regulations, as well as federal and state regulations by utilizing appropriate materials, Internet resources, seminars, etc.11. Monitor the workload and productivity of designated employees, ensuring proper utilization of resources.12. Develop and maintain appropriate job s, policies and procedures for applicable areas.13. Maintain and develop vendor relationships to enhance department efficiency.14. Assist in the development and maintenance of quality assurance records and techniques of designated areas, evaluation of equipment utilization, functional outcomes and performance, evaluation of treatment and reporting methods of the department, introduction and demonstration of new techniques, equipment, conducting and interpreting research findings to the staff. Ensures all departmental policies and procedures are followed by all staff by performing monthly audits. Makes recommendations to the Rehabilitation Services Director regarding continuing education of staff due to areas of deficiency discovered during audits.15. Coordinate meetings as directed. Provide follow-up as necessary. Establish and maintain communications within the site, the department and with other hospital departments. Develop relationships with community agencies, groups, professional affiliations, etc. as is appropriate. Be available for consultation with medical and nursing staff. Distribute all pertinent information to subordinate staff as received from other hospital departments. Schedule subordinate staff for all mandatory hospital functions.16. Assist in maintenance of department facilities and equipment in a condition to promote efficiency, health, comfort and safety of patients and staff. Assist in evaluation and justification of equipment and supply needs and purchases, documentation of maintenance schedules, planning for use of space, purchasing new equipment, and outside services. Participate in budget planning and preparation and meet budgetary targets.17. Coordinate record maintenance and computerization of department operations. Maintain and ensure the integrity of logs, charge records and patient management/schedules. Maintain appropriate computer downtime operations. Create and analyze reports and graphs as necessary to enhance department operations.18. Promote marketing of Rehabilitation Services in the acute care setting including but not limited to: CMR, LINK, and Outpatient Rehabilitation Services.19. Maintain oversight of TB skin testing for the department.20. Maintain safety, infection and environmental control standards for the department.21. Maintain working knowledge of hospital/department computer software systems, which includes but is not limited to, McKesson STAR, LaserArc, Word, Excel, Visio, Powerpoint, I:drive, J:drive, outlook, etc.22. Monitors and processes follow up on all departmental related patient inquiries/complaints. Reports all issues and resolution to the Inpatient Rehabilitation Services Director.23. Represent the department at conferences and working committees as directed.24. Strive to enhance professional growth and development.25. Maintain confidentiality and promotes HIPPA compliance with all staff.26. Directly oversees and manages assigned staff.27. Perform other duties as assigned by the Rehabilitation Services Director, COO and/or Vice President of Ancillary Services or designee.28. Perform duties of staff therapist as needed.29. Identify department needs for marketing efforts and assist Community Resources in planning promotional materials and activities in conjunction with the Rehabilitation Services Director. Develop positive relationships with physician practices, other medical personnel, organizations and businesses within the community.30. Follow North Oaks Health System's Compliance Programs and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.
