Job Title: Release of Information Clerk
Location: 10th Medical Group, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado, 80840
Tentative Start Date: December 1, 2025
Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8- or 10-hour shifts between 0700–1700, excluding federal holidays
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or GED.
- Experience:
- Prior clerical or administrative experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
- Experience with medical record management or health information systems is strongly desired.
- License/Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Proficiency in computer use, with the ability to type at least 1,200 lines per day.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Knowledge of HIPAA, DoD, and DHA privacy/security policies.

Responsibilities:
- Review, analyze, and release medical information in accordance with HIPAA, Privacy Act, and DoD directives.
- Verify the validity and authorization of requests for medical information, escalating questionable cases to legal staff.
- Research and abstract information from medical records, which may involve multiple injuries, diagnoses, and treatments.
- Code, analyze, and process medical records for accuracy, identifying discrepancies or omissions.
- Coordinate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify or correct incomplete medical records.
- Ensure proper billing procedures are initiated and completed upon fulfilling record requests.
- Prepare and issue official reports, correspondence, or responses regarding information requests.
- Manage denial and refusal tasks using the Health Information Management (HIM) system and DoD electronic health record workflows.
- Maintain accurate logs of requests and ensure timeliness of all releases in compliance with access-to-care standards.
- Protect the confidentiality of patient information, ensuring that names, lists, or sensitive data are not disclosed without authorization.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, insurance companies, and government agencies regarding record access policies.
