Summary Description:
The Release of Information Specialist processes requests for medical records and protected health information (PHI), ensuring compliance with HIPAA, state regulations, and organizational policies. This role requires attention to detail, strong customer service skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality while handling sensitive information.

Responsibilities:
Skills and Education:
High School Diploma or GED
Associate degree preferred
Working knowledge of ICD-10 diagnosis and procedure coding and CPT and HCPCS coding systems
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
Ability to recognize documentation associated with coding, billing, audits, and reimbursement requests
Experience in healthcare, medical records, health information management, or customer service preferred
Knowledge of HIPAA, privacy regulations, and medical terminology preferred
Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office applications
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent verbal and written communication skill
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
