Reliability Engineer – Chemical Manufacturing

Location: Etowah, TN

Education: Bachelor's in Engineering
Experience: Minimum 5 years in Maintenance Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or closely related industrial engineering

What This Person Will Actually Do

The primary goal is to keep plant equipment running reliably, reduce failures and downtime, and improve maintenance practices.

This person will act as the Reliability Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the site and work closely with:

• Manufacturing Directors
• Plant Engineers
• Maintenance/Supervision
• Production
• Technical teams
• Engineering
• Maintenance technicians

They need to be someone who can go from analyzing equipment failure data → identifying the root cause → recommending a solution → helping maintenance implement it.

️ Core Responsibilities

1. Equipment Reliability

• Develop and improve equipment maintenance strategies.
• Determine the appropriate maintenance approach based on risk and equipment criticality.
• Use methodologies such as:
  • RCM – Reliability Centered Maintenance
  • FMEA – Failure Mode & Effects Analysis
  • Risk-based maintenance
  • Condition monitoring

2. Root Cause / Failure Investigation

A major part of the job.

They will investigate why equipment keeps failing and determine corrective actions.

Experience with:

• Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
• 5-Why
• Failure investigations
• Chronic equipment problem solving
• Reliability data analysis

is highly valuable.

3. Maintenance Best Practices

They'll serve as the site's Reliability SME and help standardize/improve maintenance practices.

This includes:

• Preventive maintenance
• Predictive maintenance
• Condition monitoring
• Precision maintenance
• Equipment installation practices
• Reliability-centered maintenance

4. Work With Maintenance Technicians

This isn't a desk-only engineering role.

They will provide technical guidance around:

• Precision equipment repair
• Equipment installation
• Maintenance procedures
• Troubleshooting
• Corrective maintenance

A candidate who has actually spent time in a manufacturing plant working with maintenance teams is going to be much stronger than someone coming strictly from design engineering.

5. Continuous Improvement

They'll work with Production, Engineering, Maintenance, and Technical teams to identify opportunities to improve:

• Equipment uptime
• Reliability
• Maintenance costs
• Production performance
• Equipment life
• Maintenance processes

6. Financial / Business Analysis

They need to understand the business impact of reliability decisions.
