The Clinic Relief Veterinarian is responsible for providing high-quality medical care to the animals in the care of Michigan Humane. The Clinic Relief Veterinarian will assess, diagnose, and treat patients; as well as assess and triage urgent and emergency cases.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide outstanding medical care, including, but not limited to, routine examinations, vaccinations, emergency triage and stabilizations, dental procedures, surgical procedures, euthanasia, and necessary diagnostics.
  • Examine, diagnose, prescribe, and treat routine outpatient cases.
  • Order diagnostic tests as needed, interpret results, and recommend treatment plans.
  • Communicate instructions to clients and provide advice concerning preventive care and other healthcare topics.
  • Administer and accurately monitor controlled substances.
  • Maintain and complete patient records.
  • Promote and support Michigan Humane programs and overall mission.

Qualifications:

  • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree
  • Licensure in good standing to practice in the state of Michigan, including Michigan Veterinary License, Michigan Veterinary Controlled Substance License, DEA License, and Accreditation in the State of Michigan
  • Strong proficiency in medical knowledge and surgical skills
  • Possess the technical skills needed to provide a high level of care to the animals in our care.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision; possess good decision-making skills.
  • Able to handle stress and remain calm in emergency situations.
  • Flexible with the ability to thrive in an emotional, fast-paced work environment.
  • Labor intensive, must be able to stand for long periods, walk, kneel, bend, stoop, etc., and lift 50lbs without assistance.
  • Exemplary professionalism and communication skills - ability to show compassion to both animals and people in sensitive situations.
  • Strong decision-making and time-management skills
