Athra Systems is seeking a focused and self-motivated Remote AR & Patient Collections Specialist (Mental Health) to join our billing team. In this role, you will manage both insurance claims and patient accounts from submission to resolution, ensuring timely payment or accurate final disposition. As a remote team member, you must possess strong self-management skills and a secure home office environment to maintain strict confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Claim Management: Address up-front and back-end rejections, working each claim billed until payment is received or deemed uncollectible.
  • Patient Collections: Manage patient accounts, discuss outstanding balances, process patient payments, and set up payment plans securely.
  • Denial Resolution: Resolve rejected claims by filing corrective claims, submitting claim-level appeals, providing supporting documentation, or advancing claims to the next level.
  • Data Verification: Access multiple Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems and insurance portals to review, enter, and verify patient demographics and eligibility of benefits.
  • System Documentation: Update EMR platforms and document all actions throughout the claim lifecycle by entering detailed notes within Tebra.
  • Compliance: Maintain strict confidentiality by adhering to HIPAA guidelines, state regulations, and company policies.
  • Trend Analysis: Identify claim rejection and denial trends, proactively bringing them to management's attention.
  • Collaboration: Maintain periodic contact with management throughout the day via phone or Zoom to ensure productivity and alignment.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience: 2 years of AR collections and patient collections.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills to handle sensitive patient financial conversations with empathy and professionalism.
  • Remote Capability: Proven ability to work virtually in a remote capacity while adhering to a strict, set working schedule.
  • Home Office: A secure, private home office environment suitable for handling sensitive medical and financial data.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with EHR/EMR systems (experience with Tebra is highly preferred) and navigating multiple insurance portals.
  • Industry Knowledge: Understanding of mental health billing rules, patient financial responsibility, insurance verification, and the AR collections lifecycle.
