Sigma Systems is seeking a Cloud Operations Engineer / Cloud Engineer to support our client’s cloud engineering and next-generation technology initiatives.
This position will focus on implementing, supporting, maintaining, and optimizing cloud-based infrastructure and services. The Cloud Engineer will work with cloud technologies, automation, scripting, infrastructure-as-code, and operational support processes to help application and service teams effectively deploy and operate solutions within cloud environments.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience supporting at least one major cloud platform—AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP)—along with strong scripting skills, cloud infrastructure knowledge, and experience with automation and version-control technologies.
Engineer, implement, and support cloud-based technical architectures and cloud infrastructure solutions.
Assist with cloud migrations, deployment strategies, cloud resource provisioning, and application optimization.
Develop automation scripts and reusable deployment patterns to support application and service deployments into cloud environments.
Maintain and optimize cloud environments for scalability, reliability, performance, and operational efficiency.
Monitor cloud resource utilization and performance trends to identify opportunities for improved resource efficiency and cloud cost optimization.
Research new cloud technologies, services, and deployment approaches and provide technical recommendations.
Collaborate with senior and lead engineers on cloud architecture, service utilization, automation, and optimization initiatives.
Provide Level 2 support for cloud-related incidents, problems, and change-management activities.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, implementation guides, and support documentation.
Support cloud security practices including identity and access management, encryption, certificates, key management, and data protection.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives involving cloud engineering, automation, infrastructure, and operational processes.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in Cloud Computing, Computer Science, Computer and Information Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, or a closely related discipline.
At least 3 years of experience working with modern programming and/or scripting technologies.
Experience with at least two modern programming or scripting languages, such as:
Java
JavaScript
Bash
PowerShell
Similar modern programming or scripting languages
Hands-on operational support experience with at least one major cloud service provider:
Amazon Web Services (AWS)
Microsoft Azure
Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
Strong scripting and automation experience.
Experience with GitLab, Git, or comparable version-control tools and processes.
Knowledge of infrastructure concepts including:
Operating systems
Virtualization
Networking
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, highly technical environment.
Candidate must possess a current cloud-related certification from one of the following or an equivalent cloud provider:
AWS
Microsoft Azure
Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
Equivalent recognized cloud certification
Experience designing, building, and deploying scalable cloud-based architectures.
Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation technologies such as:
Terraform
Ansible
Similar infrastructure automation tools
Experience developing fault-tolerant, efficient, and maintainable code or automation solutions.
Experience with containerization and container orchestration technologies such as:
Kubernetes
Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE)
Docker or similar container technologies
Experience with cloud security practices including:
Identity and Access Management (IAM)
Data protection
Encryption
Certificate management
Key management
Terraform, Ansible, or similar infrastructure automation certification.
