    Description

    We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for experienced US lawyers with direct knowledge of legal research, drafting, client representation, case management, and legal transaction work.

    This short-term occupational research study is designed to improve how the responsibilities and day-to-day work of lawyers are documented within a US occupational framework. Selected professionals will complete a one-time online survey or interview based on their current or recent legal practice.

    Key Responsibilities

    Occupational Survey Participation

    • Complete a one-time online survey or interview about day-to-day legal practice
    • Provide accurate information about common responsibilities, workflows, and professional decisions
    • Describe legal research, drafting, client advisory, and case-related tasks
    • Help clarify how lawyers perform their work across different practice settings

    Legal Workflow Review

    • Share insight into litigation, legal proceedings, document preparation, and legal transactions
    • Describe how lawyers research issues, develop legal strategies, and advise clients
    • Explain the professional judgment involved in managing matters and interpreting legal authority
    • Provide perspective from either a specialist or broad-based legal practice

    Role & Task Validation

    • Review descriptions of lawyers' responsibilities for accuracy and completeness
    • Identify missing, outdated, or unclear occupational task descriptions
    • Help distinguish lawyer-level responsibilities from adjacent legal occupations
    • Contribute practical context grounded in independent professional practice

    Optional Follow-Up Participation

    • Participate in an additional survey, task, or short interview when invited
    • Provide clarification or further detail on legal responsibilities
    • Review follow-up questions related to professional legal practice
    • Receive separate compensation for any optional additional work

    Ideal Profile

    Strong candidates may have:

    • At least 4 years of experience practising law
    • Current legal practice or experience in the role within the past 12 months
    • Direct knowledge of legal research, drafting, case work, and client representation
    • Experience handling criminal, civil, transactional, advisory, or other substantive legal matters
    • Ability to describe professional tasks clearly and accurately
    • Current residence in the United States

    Educational Background

    • A Juris Doctor degree or equivalent legal qualification is highly relevant
    • Admission to practise law in a US jurisdiction is expected
    • Professional experience should reflect lawyer-level responsibility
    • Experience may come from private practice, in-house legal work, government, public interest, or another substantive legal setting

    Nice to Have

    • Experience across multiple legal practice areas
    • Background in litigation, transactional law, regulatory work, or client advisory
    • Familiarity with occupational research, professional surveys, or structured interviews
    • Experience explaining legal workflows to non-legal audiences
    • Availability for a brief optional follow-up activity

    Contract Details

    • Independent contractor role
    • Fully remote within the United States
    • One-time online survey or interview lasting up to approximately 30 minutes
    • Compensation of up to $70 per hour
    • Optional follow-up surveys, tasks, or interviews may be offered and paid separately
    • Flexible completion schedule
    • Paralegals, legal assistants, judicial law clerks, judges, magistrates, arbitrators, mediators, and conciliators are outside the scope of this study
    • Work will not involve access to confidential or proprietary information from any employer, client, or institution
