Remote | Licensed Civil Engineer & AI Evaluation Specialist — $60–$85/hour

We are sharing a specialised part-time consulting opportunity for licensed US civil engineers with professional experience in engineering analysis, technical design, industry standards, and discipline-specific tools and workflows.

This role supports an AI research initiative focused on improving how advanced systems understand and reason about civil engineering topics. Selected professionals will evaluate written and AI-generated content, answer technical questions, identify useful reference materials, and provide practical insight into real-world civil engineering methods, standards, and professional decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Civil Engineering Content Evaluation

• Review written content and AI-generated responses for technical accuracy, relevance, and professional quality
• Assess whether engineering analyses, recommendations, and conclusions reflect sound civil engineering practice
• Identify calculation errors, unsupported assumptions, omitted constraints, and technical inconsistencies
• Evaluate content within the candidate's strongest civil engineering disciplines

Domain-Specific Analysis

• Answer civil engineering questions using clear, well-reasoned technical explanations
• Apply professional judgment to design, analysis, documentation, and project-delivery scenarios
• Assess whether responses account for safety, constructability, site conditions, and applicable standards
• Provide corrections and supporting rationale where content requires improvement

Codes, Standards & Reference Review

• Review the application of relevant engineering codes and standards, including ASCE, IBC, and AASHTO guidance
• Identify reliable reference materials appropriate to assigned engineering topics
• Assess whether cited methods and requirements are suitable for the relevant project context
• Highlight jurisdictional, technical, and procedural considerations affecting engineering decisions

Engineering Workflows & Tools

• Share insight into practical civil engineering workflows, documentation, and quality-control processes
• Evaluate content involving AutoCAD Civil 3D, STAAD, Revit, or comparable engineering tools
• Review technical specifications, design reports, calculations, and related project materials
• Collaborate asynchronously with a small group of subject-matter experts across different fields

Ideal Profile

Strong candidates may have:

• At least 2 years of professional civil engineering experience
• An active Professional Engineer licence in the United States
• Experience in structural, geotechnical, transportation, water resources, or multiple civil engineering disciplines
• Strong familiarity with relevant engineering codes, standards, and technical documentation
• Practical experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D, STAAD, Revit, or similar tools
• Professional working proficiency in English
• Strong written communication, technical reasoning, and attention to detail
• Reliable availability for approximately 10 hours per week
• Current professional residence in the United States

Educational Background

• A degree in civil engineering from a recognised institution is required
• An active US Professional Engineer licence is required
• Advanced study or professional training in structural, geotechnical, transportation, water resources, or a related discipline may strengthen an application
• Continuing education involving engineering standards, software, design methods, or project delivery may also be valuable

Nice to Have

• Experience across more than one civil engineering discipline
• Background preparing technical specifications, calculations, design reports, or training materials
• Familiarity with construction documentation, multidisciplinary coordination, and project delivery
• Experience reviewing or mentoring the work of junior engineers
