We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Military Writing Specialists with strong expertise in military writing, federal documentation standards, report development, grading-rubric design, Department of Defense procedures, and compliance-focused communication to contribute to an advanced AI training and military-reporting evaluation project.
Selected professionals will create and review authentic military and federal reporting materials, develop high-quality reference responses, evaluate AI-generated documents, and help establish rigorous standards for effective government communication. No prior experience in AI is required.
Key Responsibilities
Military & Federal Staff Writing
- Create realistic military and federal status reports, summaries, and executive updates
- Apply appropriate structure, terminology, tone, and reporting conventions
- Develop Weekly Activity Reports, SITREPs, AARs, and related standard documents
- Produce clear reporting based on supplied prompts and source materials
- Maintain strong standards for accuracy, clarity, and audience suitability
Golden Responses & Reference Materials
- Develop high-quality golden responses for AI training and evaluation
- Create reference materials reflecting professional military-writing standards
- Produce decision briefs, memoranda, and action-officer updates where required
- Demonstrate effective approaches across operational and administrative scenarios
- Preserve appropriate branch-specific terminology and reporting context
Evaluation & AI Output Review
- Review AI-generated military and federal reports for quality and compliance
- Assess clarity, accuracy, structure, tone, and adherence to reporting conventions
- Identify factual, procedural, stylistic, or formatting weaknesses
- Provide detailed written and verbal feedback on evaluation outcomes
- Apply consistent professional judgement across repeated review tasks
Rubric & Assessment Development
- Develop grading rubrics and guidelines for military-writing tasks
- Define criteria covering accuracy, completeness, tone, structure, and compliance
- Translate federal documentation standards into repeatable evaluation frameworks
- Support benchmarking of AI-generated reports and staff-writing outputs
- Refine scoring standards as project needs and evaluation requirements evolve
Documentation & SME Collaboration
- Collaborate with other subject-matter experts on reporting standards and terminology
- Share insight on stylistic differences across common military documents
- Review PowerPoints, memos, spreadsheets, and other back-office materials where relevant
- Contribute perspectives from varied military roles, branches, and reporting environments
- Support consistent and compliant documentation practices across project workflows
Ideal Profile
- 3+ years of relevant experience supporting the U.S. Department of Defense or comparable federal military environments
- Experience producing WARs, SITREPs, After-Action Reviews, executive summaries, or similar documentation
- Strong understanding of federal documentation standards and military reporting conventions
- Background with one or more branches of the U.S. military
- Experience across two or more branches or varied military roles is advantageous
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to structure, clarity, tone, and procedural accuracy
- Experience developing, grading, or reviewing military or federal documentation
- Ability to explain reporting methodology and provide structured feedback
- Familiarity with PowerPoint briefings, memoranda, spreadsheets, and back-office documentation
- Understanding of federal compliance and documentation best practices
- Comfortable collaborating remotely on highly procedural reporting tasks
- No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required
Engagement Details
- Independent contractor engagement
- Remote — United States only
- Compensation: $40–$80/hour
- Work will involve military staff writing, golden-response development, rubric design, report evaluation, and AI-output review
- Assignments may include WARs, SITREPs, AARs, executive summaries, decision briefs, memoranda, action-officer updates, presentations, and spreadsheets
- Strong familiarity with Department of Defense reporting practices and federal documentation standards is central to this engagement
- Contributors may collaborate with SMEs from different military backgrounds to reflect varied reporting styles and terminology
- Project scope, workload, document types, and evaluation standards may evolve depending on project requirements
- Work must be completed without using classified, controlled, confidential, or proprietary information belonging to any employer, government agency, client, institution, or other third party
