Description
Our client is seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter with recent Non-QM underwriting experience to join its remote team. This position will be responsible for reviewing and underwriting residential mortgage loans while ensuring each file meets applicable investor, agency, regulatory, and internal credit guidelines.
The ideal candidate is currently underwriting within Encompass, has strong Non-QM experience, and holds an FHA DE or VA underwriting certification.
Responsibilities
Review and underwrite residential mortgage loan files for creditworthiness, accuracy, and guideline compliance
Underwrite Non-QM and government loan products
Analyze income, assets, credit, collateral, and overall borrower risk
Review complex income scenarios, including self-employed borrowers, bank statement loans, asset-based qualification, and other alternative documentation programs
Issue clear and accurate loan decisions, conditions, suspensions, and denials
Ensure loans meet investor, agency, regulatory, and internal underwriting guidelines
Communicate effectively with processors, loan officers, account executives, and other members of the operations team
Maintain established productivity, quality, and turn-time standards
Keep current with changing underwriting guidelines and compliance requirements
Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of recent Non-QM mortgage underwriting experience
Current experience working within Encompass
FHA DE certification or applicable VA underwriting certification required
Strong knowledge of mortgage credit, income, asset, and collateral analysis
Experience reviewing complex and alternative income documentation
Ability to interpret investor and agency guidelines and apply sound underwriting judgment
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and written communication
Ability to work independently in a remote environment
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
