Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Remote Senior Payroll Manager for a mission-driven national nonprofit organization. This is a full-time temporary opportunity that is fully remote and open to candidates located anywhere in the United States.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Our client is seeking an experienced and collaborative Remote Senior Payroll Manager to lead the day-to-day payroll function for a growing nonprofit organization. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely multi-state payroll processing while partnering with HR, Finance, Accounting, and external vendors to deliver an exceptional employee experience. The ideal candidate is passionate about payroll operations, process improvement, and leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and maintain compliance.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee the accurate and timely processing of semi-monthly multi-state U.S. payroll, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll regulations.
Partner with HR, Finance, and Accounting to manage payroll changes, benefit deductions, taxes, garnishments, 401(k) contributions, reporting, and audits.
Administer and maintain UKG Ready, ensuring payroll data integrity, system optimization, reporting accuracy, and efficient payroll workflows.
Reconcile payroll records, prepare payroll reports, support financial and 401(k) plan audits, and maintain accurate payroll documentation.
Manage payroll vendors, third-party integrations, and identify opportunities to streamline payroll processes through automation and continuous improvement.
Deliver exceptional internal customer service by responding to payroll inquiries, maintaining strict confidentiality, and educating employees on payroll policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
5+ years of experience processing multi-state U.S. payroll with a strong understanding of payroll operations and best practices.
Experience processing payroll using UKG Ready is required.
Experience administering payroll within an integrated HRIS/payroll platform; Rippling experience is a plus.
Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, audits, 401(k) plan administration, and overall payroll operations.
Nonprofit payroll experience is preferred but not required. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is a plus.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
