General Assignment Reporter (Multimedia Focus)

The Arizona Daily Star is seeking a versatile, curious and digitally savvy reporter to join our newsroom as a General Assignment Reporter with a strong emphasis on multimedia storytelling.

This is a fast-paced role for a journalist who is just as comfortable in the field as they are behind a camera - and in front of it. We're looking for someone who can cover a wide range of stories while producing compelling content across platforms.

Position Responsibilities

• Report on a variety of topics, including breaking news, community issues, features, and trending stories
• Shoot and edit your own photos, video, and audio in the field
• Create engaging multimedia content optimized for web and social platforms
• Produce short-form and long-form video for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and more
• Appear on camera in short, informative, and engaging social media videos
• Write clear, accurate and timely stories for digital and print audiences
• Spot trends and develop story ideas that resonate with local audiences

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Self-starter who can juggle multiple assignments and pivot quickly on breaking news
• Strong visual storytelling skills, including photography and video production
• Comfort both behind and in front of the camera, including speaking on video for social media
• Experience shooting, editing, and publishing content using mobile and/or professional equipment
• Creativity and fluency in producing content for Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, and other platforms
• Solid news judgment and an understanding of what drives audience engagement
• Strong writing, interviewing, and fact-checking skills
• A digital-first mindset and willingness to experiment with new storytelling formats
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a deadline-driven environment

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field
