WFAA, the TEGNA-owned ABC affiliate in Dallas, Texas, is seeking an experienced Reporter/MSJ to join our award-winning Dallas newsroom. This journalist will play a key role in delivering high-impact enterprise and breaking news stories for our early and late evening newscasts.
We're looking for a dynamic storyteller who brings context and depth to the issues affecting North Texas and its diverse communities. The ideal candidate is a self-starter who excels at uncovering original stories, developing strong sources, and producing exclusive content across platforms, including WFAA+, our streaming service.
Responsibilities:
• Developing a defined beat, cultivating relationships with sources, and regularly pitching exclusive and hard news enterprise story ideas. • Digging into public records and using investigative tools to uncover stories that hold people in power accountable. • Producing visually engaging, impactful stories that go beyond the headlines and resonate with viewers. • Delivering compelling live reports from the field and in studio with confident storytelling and audience connection. • Writing expanded digital content that performs across WFAA.com and social media. • Leveraging social and AI-driven tools to enhance storytelling, engagement, and productivity. • Contributing original content to WFAA+, with a focus on stories that reflect the complexity and uniqueness of North Texas. • Shooting, writing, and editing vertical videos for the WFAA app and social platforms.
Requirements:
• Strong communicator who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and responds quickly to breaking news. • Live reporting expertise with a confident, engaging presence on air. • Strong writing skills, with the ability to present complex topics in an accessible, relatable way. • Creative thinker who brings fresh ideas to story framing, visuals, and delivery. • Familiarity with shooting and editing is a plus but not required. • Proficiency in social media platforms and AI tools to support reporting and content production. • Knowledge of Texas and regional issues is a plus.
