Reporting Analyst (SQL) | Brooklyn, NY · $80K–$100K
About the Role
This role is about owning reporting end to end for a healthcare organization — sitting with business users to understand what they're actually trying to answer, writing the SQL, and delivering results people can trust. Much of the work centers on patient-visit and compliance reporting, so accuracy and consistency really matter. The real value isn't just fulfilling requests as written; it's helping stakeholders get to the right question, which frees the wider data team to focus on integrations, automation, and longer-term improvements. Expect a lot of independence, direct ownership, and steady contact with the people who depend on your work.
Key Responsibilities
Own the Reporting Pipeline
Manage reporting requests from start to finish — gathering requirements, writing SQL queries, validating results, and delivering reports
Build and maintain recurring reports and dashboards in IBM Cognos Analytics and Power BI, sourced from the eClinicalWorks (eCW) EMR
Partner with Stakeholders
Work with users to refine requests and ensure the final report answers the underlying business question
Deliver reporting on patient visits, compliance, and other operational needs across the organization
Safeguard Quality & Documentation
Review and validate report outputs before delivery, and document report logic so results stay consistent, transparent, and reusable
Develop a deep understanding of the data model, including its strengths, limitations, and areas that require extra caution
Improve & Automate
Identify opportunities to automate recurring reporting needs
Expand self-service reporting capabilities over time
Qualifications
Strong SQL skills, including multi-table joins, aggregations, window functions, and common table expressions (CTEs)
Solid understanding of relational database concepts and data relationships
A consistent habit of validating results through reconciliations, record checks, and other quality-control methods
Ability to gather requirements from non-technical users and turn business needs into practical reporting solutions
Strong written communication, since much of the clarification process happens over email
Comfortable working where priorities shift and requirements aren't always fully defined upfront
Experience working with healthcare data or other regulated, sensitive data environments
Bonus: familiarity with eClinicalWorks (eCW) or a comparable EMR
Bonus: experience with Cognos (Report Studio or Cognos Analytics authoring) — not required, as strong SQL matters far more
Bonus: a track record of reducing recurring reporting through automation or self-service solutions
