Job Description
TITLE: Assistant Athletic Coach
REPORTS TO: Principal and Athletic Director
JOB GOAL: To assist the head coach and to encourage in each student the
development of skills in the sport and an appreciation for the values of self
discipline and good sportsmanship.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid New Jersey Instructional Certificate or eligibility or Substitute
teaching certificate
Minimum experience as determined by the board
Demonstrated knowledge of the sport, sports training and conditioning,
injury prevention and management and the principles of human growth
and development
Ability to maintain a positive learning environment and high standards of
conduct for athletes
Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S.
citizenship or legal resident alien status
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrates a working knowledge of the rules and officiating techniques of the
sport.
Supports the program as designed by the Head Coach and makes suggestions for
improvement to him/her as needed.
Has the ability to and works with individual students to improve athletic skills,
develop positive attitudes, encourage good sportsmanship and foster academic
success.
Attends all practices, games, meetings and related activities and is responsible for
students' welfare and safety.
Assists in compilation of eligibility lists, awards, and maintenance of records as
requested by head coach and required by the N.J.S.I.A.A.
Cooperates with custodial staff and head coach in maintaining a safe, clean
environment.
Keeps informed and upholds all current professional developments in the coaching
field, all NJSIAA regulations and Board of Education policies.
Participates in season-end evaluations of the team's activities.
Assists in the ordering, distribution, collection and maintenance of equipment and
supplies.

Serves as a role model by his/her appearance, demeanor and display of
sportsmanship.
Assists in developing clearly defined guidelines for students' and teams' behavior
and implements consistent and equitable discipline as needed.
Demonstrates an ability to react tactically to any and all game situations as
appropriate.
Performs additional duties as assigned by Superintendent of Schools or his/her
designee.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Terms are in accordance with the provisions of the Agreement between the Old Bridge
Board of Education and the Old Bridge Education Association.

EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with state law and the
