About Columbia Legal Services

Columbia Legal Services works alongside communities in Washington State to advance social, economic, and racial justice. Our work focuses on dismantling systems that exclude people from safety, dignity, and full participation in community life, including immigration detention, incarceration, farmworker exploitation, and other systems of state and economic control.

We are seeking a social media consultant who understands the role of communications in movement work and can help us share our work in ways that are clear, compelling, community-centered, and aligned with our values.

Project Overview

CLS is seeking a part-time social media consultant to support our digital communications strategy, content development, and platform growth. The consultant will help us make better use of social media to reach donors, partners, community members, and advocates.

Because this is a limited monthly scope, we are looking for someone who can work independently, bring creative ideas, and help us prioritize the highest-impact opportunities.

Scope of Work and Expected Work Product

The consultant may support some or all of the following, depending on monthly priorities and available hours:

• Provide guidance on social media strategy, platform growth, audience engagement, and content planning.
• Help CLS explain complex legal and systems-change work in accessible, compelling ways.
• Support development of short-form video content, reels, interview clips, event content, campaign content, and other visual storytelling.
• Provide light copywriting or editing support for posts, captions, and calls to action.
• Review analytics and provide simple recommendations for improving reach and engagement.
• Advise on SEO, keywords, tagging, posting cadence, accessibility, and platform best practices.
• Help identify what content is working and where CLS should focus its limited time and resources.

Expected work product may include:

• A brief initial review of CLS's current social media presence.
• A simple monthly content plan or list of recommended post ideas.
• Support for developing priority social media content each month.
• Short-form video production or editing support, depending on available footage and priorities.
• Brief analytics notes or recommendations in a simple, usable format.
• Periodic advising conversations with CLS staff around campaigns, events, advocacy updates, or emerging communications needs.

CLS understands that 10 hours per month is a limited scope. We are seeking a consultant who can help us make strategic use of that time and advise us on what is realistic within the available budget.

Desired Qualifications

We are looking for a consultant who has:

• A demonstrated commitment to social justice, racial justice, and anti-racist communications.
• Experience creating social media content for nonprofits, advocacy organizations, campaigns, or mission-driven organizations.
• Ability to shoot and edit short-form video content for social media.
• Understanding of social media platforms, trends, analytics, SEO, and audience growth strategies.
• Strong judgment about tone, framing, confidentiality, and community-centered storytelling.
• Comfort working with sensitive subject matter, including immigration, incarceration, labor exploitation, and state violence.
• Ability to work independently, within a limited monthly scope
• A collaborative approach and openness to feedback.

Time Commitment and Budget

We anticipate up to 10 hours per month, with some flexibility depending on organizational needs, campaign timelines, events, or special projects.

Please include your hourly rate or proposed monthly retainer, along with a brief description of what you believe is realistic to accomplish within this scope. If certain services, such as on-site filming, more extensive video editing, or campaign support, would require additional hours, please note that in your proposal.

Proposal Requirements

Please submit a brief proposal that includes:

1. A short description of your background and relevant experience.
2. Your approach to social media strategy and content creation for a social justice organization.
3. Examples of relevant social media content, especially short-form video.
4. Your experience with analytics, SEO, and platform growth.
5. Your availability and proposed structure for approximately 2 hours per week.
6. Your hourly rate or proposed monthly fee.
7. Two references or examples of past clients, if available.

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be reviewed based on:

• Alignment with CLS's mission, values, and anti-racist approach.
• Relevant experience with social media strategy and content creation.
• Ability to create strong short-form video content.
• Understanding of advocacy, nonprofit, or movement communications.
• Ability to work independently within a limited weekly scope.
• Practicality of proposed approach and budget.
