Job Profile Summary:

Provides routine, technical, and administrative support to research projects to ensure established protocols and procedures are followed for the lab. Responsible for following lab safety standards.

Job Description:

The CXFEL lab is looking for a Research/Laboratory Aide, Optical Simulations to make an optical design for the new photoinjector. The applicant should be highly qualified and ready to engage in much-needed optics simulations that will then translate to the final build.

Position Salary Range: $20.38 - $23.50 per hour; DOE

Essential Duties:

  • To develop Zemax simulations of the relay imaging and demagnification of objects defined by aperturing and shaping of the UV and Green laser beam profiles.

  • Evaluate the impact of lens apertures, windows, edges, and obstruction of the quality of image.

  • Calculate the final image 3D profile for optimal electron bunch generation.

  • Other duties include collaboration with the laser team, participating in meetings, regular reporting to the supervisor.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous coursework in optical engineering

  • Previous experience in designing and simulations

Working Environment:

  • Regular activities require ability to manage multiple tasks at one time, to be able to prioritize tasks; to manage conflict: to interact in a team environment: and to communicate effectively to exchange accurate information.

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting and laboratory subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position, operating computer and other office productivity machinery; required to move a moderate distance to perform work.

  • Frequently moves up to 25 pounds for various needs.

  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

  • Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties.

  • May be required to wear personal protective equipment before entering laboratories such as lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, closed toe shoes and respirator.
