Job Description:
The College of Health Solutions seeks a Research Aide to support a research study focused on improving students' and families' fruit and vegetable intake through an elementary school and grocery store partnership. The role will assist with participant recruitment and data collection activities, particularly with Spanish-speaking families. Responsibilities include communicating study information, supporting the informed consent process, administering surveys, and assisting with physical measurements and other study assessments conducted in a community setting.
This position is fixed-term through May 2027, with the possibility of extension.
Position Pay Rate:
Essential Duties:
Support participant recruitment and engagement, particularly with Spanish-speaking families
Assist with the informed consent process and ensure participants understand study procedures
Administer surveys to study adult and child participants
Assist with data collection activities, including height and weight measurements and Veggie Meter scans
Help prepare, organize, and transport research materials to data collection sites
Maintain accurate data collection records and follow study protocols
Assist with coordination of data collection activities at participating community locations
Respond to phone calls from participants inquiring about the research study
Additional research tasks assigned by the Program Manager and research team
Use basic math
Other duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications:
Fluency in Spanish and English (spoken and written)
Experience as a Community Health Worker or similar community-based health role
Familiarity with school- and community-based public health programs
Experience working with families in the Phoenix area
Strong communication and interpersonal skills (comfortable interacting with children and parents/caregivers)
Professionalism and ability to represent the research team in community settings
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a research team
Comfort following standardized measurement protocols (e.g., height, weight, Veggie Meter, surveys)
Basic technology skills, including use of tablets/iPads, Qualtrics survey platform, and data entry
Attention to detail and accuracy in data collection
Willingness to complete required research trainings (e.g., human subjects research training)
Ability to lift and transport up to 25 pounds of research equipment and materials
Availability to travel to recruitment and data collection sites
Reliability and punctuality in attending scheduled recruitment and data collection activities
Prior experience with recruitment, data collection, data entry for research studies
Completion of community health worker certification and/or training
Working Environment:
Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting
Ability to clearly communicate verbally, read, write, see and hear
Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work
Use office equipment, i.e. printers, copiers, fax machines, telephones, calculator
Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, may include/subject to resolution of conflicts
Use of software/computer equipment for extended periods of time
Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze and report data/results of tests conducted
Use an ASU or personal vehicle to travel to different campuses
Travel to recruitment and data collection sites
Use Veggie Meter, Digital Scale, Stadiometer lab equipment
Frequent lifting and transport up to 25 pounds
