Overview

The Research Analyst collects, manages, analyzes, and reports institutional data related to student success, institutional effectiveness, and strategic initiatives. This position works independently and collaboratively to support institutional research, improve student outcomes, and support decision-making across the college.

This position is eligible for hybrid work location, per Everett Community College's Telework Policy.

Duties & Responsibilities

Data Analysis and Research

  • Extract, compile, and analyze data from internal and external sources, including the student information system (SIS), state agencies, and national databases.
  • Write queries and scripts using SQL, R, Python, or similar programming languages to manipulate and analyze complex datasets.
  • Design and conduct quantitative and qualitative research studies using appropriate methodologies, including statistical analyses relevant to student success, enrollment trends, and institutional outcomes.
  • Check and validate data for accuracy, completeness, and integrity; identify and resolve errors or inconsistencies.

Reporting and Data Visualization

  • Respond to scheduled and ad hoc data requests by producing tables, charts, graphs, and narrative analyses.
  • Prepare written reports, presentations, and summaries for diverse audiences.
  • Support preparation of reports for accreditation, grant proposals, and institutional self-studies.
  • Administer surveys, analyze results, and report findings; assist in developing survey instruments and interview/focus group protocols.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of dashboards and data visualizations to provide real-time data insights.
  • Assist with external reporting requirements, including IPEDS, HEOA Gainful Employment data, and national surveys.

General Duties

  • Participate in committees, task forces, and cross-departmental initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations and meet the needs of the campus, including providing research and analysis to support institutional research, institutional effectiveness, planning, accreditation, program assessment, grant proposals, and state/federal compliance.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Science, Statistics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • One to two years of experience in data analysis, institutional research, or a closely related field.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Writing in programming languages such as SQL, R, or Python.
  • Use of statistical software and tools like Tableau for data analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative research design and methods.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines with accuracy.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with different members of the college including faculty, staff, and in some cases, students.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for presenting data insights and research findings.
  • Ability to maintain data confidentiality and apply applicable legal and ethical standards (e.g., FERPA).

Preferred

  • Knowledge of institutional research practices, including survey administration, external reporting, and compliance with state and federal standards.
  • Experience working in a community college setting.
  • Knowledge of the mission and unique challenges of community colleges.

Terms of Employment

  • Full-time position, Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Overtime eligible - FLSA non-exempt
  • Position is subject to Everett Community College policies and procedures.
  • Represented by Washington Federation of State Employees Union.
  • Performance will be evaluated after a six (6) month probationary period and annually.
